As missionaries we ask people to search for feelings as they pray or read the Book of Mormon. If they say that they feel good then we reference Galations 5:22-23 to convince them that this good feeling is actually God talking to them through the spirit (as an aside, this is an odd twisting of Paul's words to the Galations because Paul seems to be saying that the spirit will cause you to DO good and not that good feelings are some sort of holy litmus test to determine truth). Anyway, If that person can identify those feelings as God talking to them then we build on that by trying to identify what God is trying to say.
