Greetings from KingGreg

Post by KingGreg »

Hi everybody,

I hope this forum helps me improving my spiritual life. I am upset with so many things in Church that sometimes my desire is never to return to it. Still, I maintain myself quite active. But I decide recently to stop doing things that doesn’t bring me happiness, hope and a greater faith in Jesus Christ. For example, studying Scriptures by my own and not following Come, Follow Me program, although for many this is “an obligation”.

My situation at LDS Church is this: "To my great regret, this is the right path". So I will try to walk in it…

I hope my English is understandable ‘cause it is not my first language!

Welcome KingGreg. We're glad that you found us. I especially like what you said in your Intro:

Don't hesitate to explain the issues that brought you here. Many of us are working through the same issues that you are currently.
Keep coming back.

Welcome to the forum! Sometimes church does bring happiness, hope and greater faith in Jesus Christ and sometimes it's a challenge to find any of those things on a given Sunday.
In the absence of knowledge or faith there is always hope.

Once there was a gentile...who came before Hillel. He said "Convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot." Hillel converted him, saying: That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it."

I would like additional context for this statement. Did you have a spiritual experience that confirms that "this is the right path"? Is it possible that this is the right path for you but not for others?

I would like to know more about your perspectve.

Welcome to the group, friend.

Your English is great! Out of curiosity (I love language learning) what is your native language?

I think this is a great plan. I do much the same. I do look at what the scriptures for the week are, but beyond that I do not look at Come Follow Me. I totally get that we're supposed to study the scriptures for ourselves individually and as families and have discussions about our personal insights. The basic premise of it is that we're supposed to think for ourselves. Yet, the manuals would indicate that nothing really changed from old programs except the materials have been updated (not so many quotes from the 1980s). I also get that the membership was/is so used to being spoon-fed what we're supposed to believe that it's hard to get past that. C'est le vie.

Welcome to the forum. May you find the peace you seek.
