1 Reason Why I Stay
One of the women I home teach is moving today. She is a single mom, doing her best, and is moving to be closer to family. I sent out emails and text messages to make sure some folks could be there to help her. When I checked up on things later this morning, my friend informed me that 20 brethren had showed up, he was 15 minutes late, and had nothing to do. It was done.
I may not agree with all those brethren on all points, but my heart was filled with love for them this morning. An organization that creates that many good men can't be all bad. That's 1 reason I stay.

In the absence of knowledge or faith there is always hope.
Once there was a gentile...who came before Hillel. He said "Convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot." Hillel converted him, saying: That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it."

Agreed, and thanks for sharing.
I believe that generally, and within reason, people are happier when serving others. Our church does promote a culture of service.

Thank you for this.

Even if people view many things differently, the core Gospel principles (LOVE; belief in the unseen but hoped; self-reflective change; symbolic cleansing; striving to recognize the will of the divine; never giving up) are universal.

Agree - I have had people help me out.
It is something sorely lacking outside the church and a mark of a genuine community. It is true Christianity.

I have watched this guy's commentary on the Institute https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzcrU3 ... fD_peR4HYA and agreed with much, but couldn't tell if he was just trying to ding the church or really just honest.
I just watched this one on "Staying Mormon" ("why I stay?"). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRjjyDtpWDo Very interesting. Sounds like he very well is just trying his best and being vocal about it.

Re: 1 Reason Why I Stay
I think its great that people showed up to help. That wouldn't have been me, as I finished with moving a few years ago, but the whole service orientation in that story is great.

I think this is why most of us hang around. It is so hard to replace that community that the church can provide.
The challenge for me personally is to not let the bad overwhelm me so I do not appreciate the good.
