The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
I know I wouldn't feel comfortable having large group meetings these days. Very few people have had their second or third booster vaccination for one thing and the effectiveness diminishes over a period of months. I suspect a lot of folks think that one shot is sufficient and are getting lax about safety.
Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
Israel is forcing people to have the third one and is talking of a fourth. This is way out of hand. We know Covid is nasty but does its low death rate justify six monthly injections for everyone indefinitely? There is something very very wrong with this whole thing. In many places people are being admitted who have had two of the jabs. It makes me wonder what the point of destroying everything for ineffective (and sometimes dangerous) vaccines is. But we're not allowed to discuss this on social media.Limhah wrote: ↑17 Aug 2021, 18:20 I know I wouldn't feel comfortable having large group meetings these days. Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
I don't think it's any different than the annual flu vaccine that some workers (especially in healthcare) are required to get. I had the flu (the real flu, not the excuse for taking a day off flu) when I was 34 years old. I was out of work for two weeks, most of that in bed and when I returned to work (it was a new job) I was probably not more than 50% recovered. I truly remember wishing I would just die and get it over with. Ever since then I have chosen to get the flu shot. Yes, I did once get the flu (tested/diagnosed) even though I had been vaccinated - but it was way milder and on a long weekend and I missed no work (cleared by the doctor). I am vaccinated for COVID, first shot in February. Like the flu shot I am willing to get the third shot and even do it annually if necessary (COVID, flu and the common cold are variants of the same virus). My workplace requires vaccination or weekly testing. They also require annual TB testing, and that I have the other vaccines that most of us in the US get as children (mumps, measles rubella, polio, smallpox, etc.). Although not required I did have the shingles vaccine because I did have chickenpox as a child (I also had measles and mumps prior to those vaccines). Finally, in my current state of mind I would not necessarily get vaccinated because the prophet said so - but I might and I definitely would have pre-faith crisis (but then again I was vaccinated before the prophet said so).SamBee wrote: ↑06 Sep 2021, 15:03Israel is forcing people to have the third one and is talking of a fourth. The reason this can't be "discussed" on social media is because abundant misinformation, incorrect information, and outright untruths are out there perpetuating the spread of the COVID virus. I don't believe we want this forum to be the source or continuation of such misinformation, incorrect information or outright untruths either.

Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
IIRC, common cold is a rhinovirus rather than a coronavirus but I'm not a doctor
Given that even 'vaccinated' people can contract the virus and transmit it (though in smaller quantities than unvaccinated) it would be wise to require weekly testing of both vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Of course both groups should continue to mask up for the foreseeable future. Essentially, both unvaccinated and vaccinated should be taking all the same precautions as before the 'vaccine' was available.
I've heard from several friends already who are vaccinated and later tested positive.
Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
I agree that vaccinated people may be positive and asymptomatic spreaders of COVID and I would not be opposed to testing although currently only unvaccinated and symptomatic people are subject to testing at my workplace.Limhah wrote: ↑10 Sep 2021, 03:31IIRC, common cold is a rhinovirus rather than a coronavirus but I'm not a doctor

And I will offer a correction to the above post about COVID19, influenza and the common cold all being the same virus. Influenza is a different virus altogether but has similar symptoms to COVID19. The common cold can be caused by a variant of the coronavirus but may also be caused by other viruses. COVID19 is a specific coronavirus.

Interesting news article from the Salt Lake Tribune: https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2021/09 ... wont-help/
Latter-day Saint leaders in California have been told not to sign “religious exemption” forms for anti-vax members who want to dodge vaccination mandates by citing their faith.
The issue has arisen in that state because it now requires vaccines for health care workers, teachers and others.
Some members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have asked their lay bishops to support their applications to receive religious waivers from their employers.
“No church official can sign any kind of document supporting the notion that church doctrine/teaching is opposed to vaccination or that the church is opposed to vaccination mandates,” reads a letter sent to all bishops and stake (regional) presidents from the faith’s Area Presidency. “As to the former, the opposite is true [the church not only supports but also encourages vaccination]; as to the latter, the Brethren [top officials] have not taken a position.”

Right, I had seen that news.
I understand that some have tried to make the case that our religion's emphasis on "agency" would qualify as a religious exemption. As I understand the doctrine of agency, it has always been that we are free to choose an action but we are not free to choose the consequence of that action.
I speculate that Jehovah's Witnesses would have an easier time in the religious exemption department given their history or refusing lifesaving medical treatments (blood transfusions) and refusing civic, government, and military involvement (I understand they they do not run for office or vote in elections. They are also "conscientious objectors" and do not join the military). From a quick internet search, it appears that the Witnesses had taken a stance against vaccination in the past but since 1952 have made it an "individual decision." Still, I think a member of their church would have an easier time than a member of our church trying to make the case for a religious exemption.

Re: The COVID-19 Vax & the WOW
People in my ward are taking adverse reactions on a regular basis. It's not even uncommon and it's not antivaxxers I'm hearing this off. This isn't a flu vaccine - a flu vaccine doesn't make you feel sick for two weeks after you've had it. I recently heard the Patriarch's wife talking about this with another elderly member about how both of them were kept awake in pain all night after having theirs. Both of them seemed to take the line their choice was regrettable but necessary. Guys - that is not normal. I have had flu shots - they don't do that to you, or extremely rarely.
But we're not supposed to talk about this, and the media won't cover it. They've given minimal coverage to heart and stroke problems arising shortly after people having it.
