Re: Everything's on the table now

It's not necessarily either/or God did it or Moses was a false prophet. There are certainly other points of view, one of which is Moses wasn't speaking as a prophet then and/or the things recorded are his (or the recorder's) opinion. It wasn't his opinion that it was his opinion. It might be your o...

Re: Everything's on the table now

Good post, Hawkgrrrl. I think what perturbs be the most (I can't think of a better word), is that policy doesn't make the Church more or less true. Policy is symptomatic of doctrine. Even IF the Church had the "correct" policy all along, that wouldn't change the underlying truthfulness of the Church...

Re: RM's auto-admitted to BYU-Pathway Program

Dande I do think the credits transfer. That's why they do it through BYU-I, they're accredited. Of course what other school is going to put Book of Mormon classes anywhere but as an elective which probably translates to "instead of 128 credits to graduate you'll need 130." I depends on the universi...

Re: How do I explain modesty?

Agreed. Women have lustful thoughts as well (and let's not forget the gay men). Although I really like to steer the conversation away from the idea that seeing a woman's shoulders or knees somehow makes it the woman's fault a man has lustful thoughts. That's one of my pet peeves about how modesty i...

Re: How do I explain modesty?

The young women are given very explicit directions of what constitutes "immodest clothing." Young mend are told to "maintain modesty." When I was young, young men liked to wear pants that were falling off so that their boxers showed. They dressed slovenly and sloppily in general, but the loss of pa...

Re: RM's auto-admitted to BYU-Pathway Program

Just semantics here, but looking at the articles, it says missionaries are "pre-approved" rather than "auto-admitted" or "auto-enrolled". There's a big difference. Credit card companies "pre-approve" me all the time. :) But you still have have to apply. RMs are now just "guaranteed" to get in now......

Re: How do I explain modesty?

Reverent people may fold their arms and sit quietly, but that isn't the reverence - the reverence is in their minds/hearts. How you choose to carry yourself is usually a pretty good reflection of who you are; Not only that, what you do affects who you are. What I'd hate to see, is words like "rever...

Re: RM's auto-admitted to BYU-Pathway Program

I'm glad to know this is the case, but... wasn't this always the case, ever since the Pathways Program was first opened? From what I remembered, I thought pretty much everyone was auto-accepted into the BYU-Pathway program, so long as they are an active member. Online coursework, with a weekly "inst...

Re: How do I explain modesty?

I'm not quite sure what you mean or how you define modesty. I'm not advocating that women wear bikinis to church, I'm just trying to get the message through that even if they did that has little to do with modesty. By my own definition, I'd say wearing a Bikini to Church would be VERY immodest. You'...

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

Funerals aren't too dissimilar. If you have a funeral in a LDS building you can expect the service to have a missionary opportunity feel to it. If you get the wrong bishop you may even be limited to how much you can make the funeral about the deceased. Their building, their rules I guess. If you wa...
