Kintsugi: A Japanese Art - An Application to the Gospel
The following is a Wikipedia link to the Japanese concept of kintsugi - repairing cracked or broken pottery by welding it back together with gold threads. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kintsugi?fbclid=IwAR2pAb1bzst2g-N7LKmYSyxpaNnGGpcqw8IO2TNcfl8oLiwTCtPVhjPCy-s Kintsugi does not seek to hide or cov...

Re: Help with talk please
I would focus on God's blessings in my life. I would pick a couple of orthodox ones and a few unorthodox ones - and use traditional Mormonese.

She is and might be always my favorite General Authority (and, yes, I use that term intentionally).
This is excellent.

Pres. Nelson on Reading the Book of Mormon for Its Purpose
Pres. Nelson said back in 1999 it is best to read the Book of Mormon with its purpose in mind: to bring people to Jesus Christ. (https://www.thechurchnews.com/archives/1999-10-03/elder-russell-m-nelson-a-testimony-of-the-book-of-mormon-121840) The full quote is: Some authors have focused upon its st...

Re: Discouraged and Sick of it All
I don't know why this is the thought that hit me while reading your post, Jamison, but it did - so I will share it: Progress not perfection. Work on what makes you a better person and finding new things that do the same. Focus on movement, not desired outcome. Mormonism teaches eternal progression -...

Re: YSA Fireside
I have not gone back to see if this point has been made in the thread already, but: I give the Church credit for beefing up the History Department with some solid historians and opening up the archives for exploration and study. (I know a couple of them personally, and, while they are active and "fa...

Re: Reconnecting with people from the mission
My advice is simple: Focus on them and what they want and need to hear. In the medical lexicon: "Do no (intentional or avoidable) harm." Talk about them. When you talk about yourself, use the word "Gospel" instead of "Church". If you have a difficult leader, maybe say something like, "Church is toug...

Re: All Things New
At the most basic psychological level, people are motivated by either hope of reward or fear of punishment - or, to put it more simply, good images or bad images. The idea of imagery uses both of these motivations. People are told to picture EITHER a moment they long to have (for the first time or a...

Re: For What Do You Pray?
Basically, help - usually generically, but sometimes specifically.
Most often it is just casting my mind and heart upward and asking to be led and guided to do the right thing and be of help to others. Always a prayer in my heart, so to speak.

Re: Come, Follow Me D&C: 2021 January
I always try to interpret meaning from the literal words and their literal meanings first - and move to figurative meanings only if the literal meanings don't make sense. Therefore, I read "this generation" as literally that generation, especially given the use of the plural in the verse before. (No...
