Speaking of the 95 theses, I thought this post was interesting. Many great ideas even if you don't agree with all. What would you add? What would you take away?

Re: Questions to ensure youth are ready to serve a mission
This is a little off base from the topic of the OP, but this thread has veered into a discussion of missionary life in general and how things could possibly improve. One thought I've had reading through these posts is about knocking door-to-door. At least in the US, I think that should be banned. We...

Re: Was the priesthood ban revelation?
This is an interesting discussion. I think the consensus is that the ban was definitely not revelation. So here is a bigger question: what is revelation? Is it God revealing to man His will? Or is it man having an "epiphany" that he thinks is God's will? Does the first type of revelation happen with...

Re: For those who stay. Do you still follow all the teachings of the church?
Such a weird question for me because my thoughts and feelings about the church, faith, and even god have changed so drastically over the last year. The short answer is that I still attend but rely on my own inner moral compass for making decisions. I don't trust the church or its leaders to tell me ...

Re: Was the priesthood ban revelation?
This is really hard issue for me. Brigham taught the ban as if it was revelation, using clear wording to that effect. So it begs the question, if a prophet can teach false doctrine believing it comes from God, and members can hear and accept that doctrine and get a confirmation from the spirit that ...

Re: God has Favorites?
Careful - we learned from Elder Christofferson in Oct 2016 conference that God's love is actually NOT unconditional.

Re: An alternate model for funding the church
Tithing used to be 10% of surplus annually, meaning after all your expenses were taken care of, 10% of what you had left over. At some point they transitioned to 10% of income, but that was never a revelation, just a policy change. The wording in the D&C is still the same and could be interpreted as...

Re: Quinn's Research on LDS Church Finances
There is something troubling to me about a church having so many different for-profit enterprises. I don't know why, but it just bugs. I guess I'd rather see the church building children's hospitals or being funding humanitarian enterprises that members could be a part of, like medical or social mis...

Re: Doubting my Patriarchal Blessing
I'm wondering if PB will ever go away. They seem to be either so generic as to be meaningless or so specific as to be unlikeley to be fulfilled. Being a skeptic, I am inclined to believe that they are not truly inspired but come from the patriarch. And I don't think declaring lineage has as much mea...

Re: Today was my last Sunday for a while
Good luck Reuben! I hope you'll still post and engage here. We need the agnostic voice! I hope it helps you to step away, but mostly I hope it helps your daughter. The constant retrenching into an organization that (currently) teaches she will never be accepted the way she is has to be hard. I am no...
