Re: The positive outcome of a faith crisis

I can say for myself that internally I am MUCH more at peace and feel closer to God. I actually didn't ever lose my faith in God while in the midst of my faith crisis. I remember begging God to tell me if what he was trying to tell me was that the church wasn't true - asking if he was guiding me awa...

I would disagree. I have found that I know I am not good at handling someone else's flaws. It is one of the hardest things in life.

Re: Only one path to God

Nice analogy Dark. And a lighthouse that is on a very small island is seen for 360 degrees (lets just stay in 2 dimensions or the math gets more complex :-) ). And it there is 1 path for everyone, how do we explain that each of us have to overcome different obstacles? I think we each have our OWN pa...

Re: Does historicity matter?

I am getting much better sitting next to a literalist even if they think I am wrong. Much more than a few months ago.

Re: Does historicity matter?

Pretty much what Nibbler said. It really makes no difference to me if any story in the old scriptures actually happened or not - whether I believe Jonah lived in a fish for three days or not doesn't matter as long as I get the moral of the story. I am there now also, but it does not bother me. It u...

Re: Can Prophets make mistakes? FairMormon/Givens' weigh in

My current feeling is that some prophets are kind of scoundrels. I am becoming more comfortable with this. That the Lord can work through people with real problems. But if I believe this and still hold the gospel as true - I have a much harder time litening to some (but not all) conference talks.

Re: Moral obligations of a Church

When trying to find the source of this For example, there is a myth in the church that "no one is paid" in the church. Actually, the people at the top get paid -- it's only the local people who don't get paid. Uchdorft, bless his heart, came clean on this in one of his talks, but for decades I belie...

Re: The Positive

Having been a member for all of my life (I am in my 50's) and having seen much of the good that comes in so many people's lives was a big reason why I didn't leave the church altogether during my faith crisis. I have looked back a bit and realize the privilege/blessing it is for me to be at a point ...

Re: Why is the church so bad?

I certainly am still struggling with the centralized, authoritarian, infallible leaders, never question the brethren, obeying a leader even when he is wrong is the best, ... After coming to terms with the Blacks and the Priesthood, I feel that it is my moral duty to find out if what I hear from chur...

Re: C-PTSD as a Cause for Faith Crisis

I will say I have had very loving leaders who up front recognize they haven't experienced what I have so they can't relate, but they love me and have faith things will work out. Those are the messages that help...not someone who things they can tell you what went wrong and why...but someone who jus...
