Re: The God Who Weeps: How Mormonism Makes Sense of Life (Te

I just want to point out that, while I like and am drawn more to the Givens' perspective, I am quite certain Lund's is just as "honest". I concede. "Honest" may not have been the best wording. I suppose all I was getting at was that the Givens' perspective seems more vulnerable, less "knowing" and ...

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I read it and thoroughly enjoyed their honest perspective.

Great book written from an honest perspective. I found it very refreshing after reading Gerald Lund's dogmatic analysis of the Spirit in "Hearing the Voice of the Lord".

Proof of Heaven: by Eben Alexander, M.D.

This being a New York Times Bestseller, I imagine a few people here have read this book, and in a nutshell I think his story is extremely compelling. His background as a neurosurgeon makes the mystery of what he went through even more intriguing. Just as many of the people on this forum, including m...

Re: "Created in the image of god"

If you want to get really mind-blowing, think of an image of a person drawn on a sheet of paper. It could have all the visual details of the actual person, arms, legs, face, etc., and appear to have depth. It is however, only 2-dimensional (it's drawn on a flat piece of paper with only the X and Y a...

Re: Faith and Intellect

Also, is anyone familiar with this quote from President Uchtdorf that went along with the article (it was a sidebar quote in the print version)? Fear not; ask questions. Be curious, but doubt not! Always hold fast to faith and to the light you have already received. Because we see imperfectly in mor...

Re: Gary Gutting on "religious agnostics"

Loved this article! I think that people in religion can tend to be very conformist, and Roy makes a great point about things being difficult in the church for those who don't conform. Given this, I find it ironic that the proclaimed head of our church, Jesus Christ, tended to choose to hang out with...

Re: Searching for God

eman , You inspired a point that I would like to make. I don't want to sound like I'm blaming the church for everything. In the end my spirituality is my responsibility, so the buck stops here. Thanks. Roadrunner , I believe I understand what you mean by "agnostic deist," and I think that's a great...
