Re: Seminary Manual vs. non-LDS Scripture Commentary
I think that's great that you use non-LDS commentary for the scriptures in seminary other than the LDS seminary manuals. After I had my faith transition, I hardly ever read, listen, or watch talks or listen to the opinions of the General Authorities, unless it's Uctdorf or a few others I might like....

Re: TR Questions Change-up
When it comes to good works taught in the church, I used to get so annoyed when many Christians outside of the church would accuse of believing our works save us and not grace, as the old argument/debate goes. Now after my faith transition, I think in many ways they're right. Unfortunately, too many...

Re: Joseph Smith: Fallen prophet?
I could be wrong about this, but for awhile I believed prophets couldn't be true prophets unless God directly called them or eventually appeared to them. Now I don't believe that anymore. I believe people have different strengths and weaknesses and God gives different people different spiritual gift...

Re: Joseph Smith: Fallen prophet?
This is an interesting topic. I've come to the conclusion that true or false prophets isn't always so black-and-white. All prophets were and are probably just a mixture of true and false. Who was to say he was fallen? Because he believed, taught, and did some thing are wrong? David and Solomon defin...

MrNirom, I appreciate that too. I apologize if I might have have offended you. I think that's great you and your wife have the spiritual gifts necessary to see and experience the things you two have been able to. With Alvin's situation and temple work in general I really wasn't trying to say that no...

Re: How Can I Navigate My Path With The Course With These Issues?
Thanks, everyone, for the comments. AmyJ, I love what you had to say here, 5: Us Vs Them & The End of the World: Okum's razor suggests that the narrative in the scriptures was written to unite people and create communities - fear, religious differentiation and common beliefs are the way to do so. I ...

How Can I Navigate My Path With The Course With These Issues?
Per SilentDawnings request, here are the things I'm talking about. 1. Temple ordinances: I think they're great, even though I don't think they're required for exaltation at all. Joseph Smith's oldest brother Alvin apparently didn't need them at all according to a dream or vision Joseph had, but the ...

I've prayed about it and I get the impression, so I think I'll be staying in the church. I don't my ward that much at all. I'm grown u...

I desperately need advice!
Forgive me, but this is long. So here goes.. Something has been on my mind lately. I've been inactive from church more often than not, partly because of not being able to afford to buy a car to drive myself to church and also because with of my dad's health my parents normally aren't active. And bec...
