Do you ever feel forgiven?
One thing that sort of hurts my testimony about the atonement is that I never feel forgiven. Once I even went to a wooded area, about a mile from my home, and prayed for the better part of a day off an on while communing with nature. A lot like Enos in the Book of Mormon. I never feel forgiven. How ...

Re: Where is everyone?
Maybe the church has made such positive changes (cancelling home teaching, 2 hour church, giving us a holiday from church attendance due to COVID-19, better equality among the organizations in the Ward) that we not necessary any more

Re: Metrics and Agency
When you say, "Hold leadership accountable," I wonder what that looks like. I know that there are ways to socially and religiously pressure/punish/reward individuals. I suppose I am at a point in my faith evolution where most of these would no longer work on me. I had a long wrestle with what accou...

Re: Metrics and Agency
I want to take one step back. It's a church, right? Why are we measuring people against metrics and holding them responsible in the first place? I think it's important to measure results. Otherwise, you don't know how you are doing. I don't have a problem with metrics, but I do have a problem with ...

Re: Metrics and Agency
When I posted the opening post, I was thinking more about the way leaders are held accountable. How can it be done with fairness when it is the agency of others that often determines the metric? How do you protect yourself as a leader when people above you simply look at low numbers and assume you a...

Metrics and Agency
I have been subject to a lot of situations in leadership (both in and out of the church) where I am responsible for certain metrics. Often these metrics are a result of the agency of other people. The old home teaching program is a good example. We were responsible for seeing families, but the succe...

Re: Regarding Tests of Loyalty
Did Adam and Eve pass or fail their test? Was what happened as a result a blessing or a curse? We're all sinners, failing a test of sorts, yet we have been blessed with the atonement. Another take... If Abraham was good enough to pass the test, why would he need a blessing? The blessing could have ...

Re: Regarding Tests of Loyalty
Since this thread has been made available in the queue, I want to ask a question. I find it interesting to interpret the test as one that Abraham has failed. But what I don't get is this. If Abraham failed the test, then why did the Lord bless Abraham with the Abrahamic Covenant afterwards? Could so...

Re: The Quest for Perfection
Expecting perfection is a recipe for poor mental health in my view. I have learned that even with working with people as a leader/manager, you get more if you expect general behavior within a certain range, rather than outright perfection. There needs to be allowance for people to do things the way ...
