Re: Supposed Blizzard of Changes coming at General Conference
8) An extension to #7. Many will apostatize because of what will be said , they will be hitting the theme of follow the prophet, choose you this day whom ye will serve, because whatever is said will test you. Aside from hitting the theme of follow the prophet real hard (it is general conference aft...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry
I guess I take more of a stoic view than an idealistic approach in this case so I have a hard time feeling very angry about something like this when there is nothing that can be done to change what already happened so long ago. Personally I think Joseph Smith had narcissistic personality disorder or...

Re: A Healthier Approach to the Porn Dilemma
Actually I know someone who got sent to ARP for too many romance novels Well I know plenty of temple "worthy" LDS women here in Utah that read romance novels without apparently feeling much, if any, guilt or shame about it. And why would they worry too much about it if no one has ever told them oth...

Re: A Healthier Approach to the Porn Dilemma
The Church operates on prophetic inspiration. Because of this, it's very difficult for the leadership to admit when things aren't working and make adjustments. Reduction and rehabilitation should be the goal, and I agree that current Church practice is less effective than it should be...In all fair...

Re: A Healthier Approach to the Porn Dilemma
I'll be vulnerable here.. Porn can also be very helpful...No one mentioned this at church. I have come to view porn as almost everything else: Too much is bad. For many years it has been almost impossible for me and my wife to have sex because she is suffering from anxiety and general shame about s...

Re: A Healthier Approach to the Porn Dilemma
I think we have framed the pornography discussion in a way that creates a lot of disappointment for everyone in the church. ..I would propose some healthier approaches would be: 1. Let's all acknowledge that people (mostly men) are naturally interested in pornography, this doesn't make them pervert...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152
The way that President Nelson announced this made it sound like some new revelation. But it turns out that this is something that has apparently bothered him for a long time and he actually talked about this same general idea in General Conference way back in 1990 but after that it was largely ignor...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152
Church of Jesus Christ is too generic. There are a dozen organizations with names like that. Isn't the church website lds.org? Or mormon.org? I don't think either are offensive. Exactly; what is so bad about "Mormon" and "LDS" to the point that they should be actively discouraged in the first place...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152
To me this sounds like the epitome of straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel (Matthew 23:24). Seriously, of all the things in the world to worry about or try to improve, you expect me to believe that this is what the "Lord" chose to impress upon your mind? Sorry President Nelson, I'm not buying ...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past
I have actually tried both approaches (confessing and not confessing) and as far as I'm concerned confessing to priesthood leaders didn't really help anything and is a bad idea in general. These guys are part-time unpaid amateurs when it comes to "pastoral care" and you never know what you are going...
