Re: Conservative politics . . how did we get here?
Much of what we associate with Joseph Smith's vision of a theocracy was embodied by his Nauvoo. Its fairly safe to say that most of the practices (with the exception of the endowment) that were embraced at Nauvoo are rejected today. The church was initially a Zionistic, "Christ's Second Coming is Em...

Re: Questions about the BoM
One theory my DH has put forth is that the Lamanites were intermarrying with native S. Americans, thus causing them to become "dark". The Nephites, who were descendants of a "white" race, would then view these individuals as evil for marrying outside the religion. Therefore, in their eyes, the "curs...

Last two Sundays back...
This Sunday and last were the first that I attended church after my "decision" that I was going to go Buffet Mormon. The experience so far has been great for me, and I wanted to share how it has gone. Last Sunday, Sacrament Meeting talks were on temples. I have taken a non-literal approach to the te...

Re: Why did John the Baptist baptize?
Ok, so JtB was just baptizing as others had before, I get that. That wasn't really the point of my "why" - the question was, by baptizing them, what did it mean? They were already Jews, so... they were being baptized to be brought "back into" the Jewish faith? What was his purpose in doing the bapti...

Why did John the Baptist baptize?
I hope that this question belongs in this category. [Mod action: moved to History and Doctrine -Valoel] MisterCurie and I were having a discussion tonight about the necessity of baptism for entrance into Christianity (not just our church, but Christian churches in general). We realized that we don't...

Re: D&C 132:Original intent
I believe Joseph was a prophet, but I believe he was deceived on the polygamy issue. I concur in part with this - I think that if Joseph was a true prophet (my verdict is still out on this), that he was deceived on this issue. I specifically think of exactly what MormonHeretic brought up, about the...
