Re: Come, Follow Me D&C: 2021 January

But I don't think they can have it both ways, in how they use "generation". D&C 5:9 ...I have reserved those things which I have entrusted unto you, my servant Joseph, for a wise purpose in me, and it shall be made known unto future generations; 10 But this generation shall have my word through you;...

Re: Come, Follow Me D&C: 2021 January

What is meant by "this generation"? Has that generation passed? What about today's generation?

So, I would think it does not necessarily mean we hear God's words exclusively through JS. God's words come to us in many ways, right? Which also includes JS.

Re: Wouldn't it be easier just to tell us?

if there's so much good in the world, why does the news tend to be more bad then good? This is one of the most important questions we can ask in our current seemingly crazy world. IMO, it is this way because "the news" is big business... and 'good' doesn't sell the way 'bad' does. Once we accept th...

Re: Come, Follow Me D&C: 2021 January

Thanks for prompting me to review the lesson. It's good for me to skim. At the end it says: Improving Our Teaching Help learners liken the scriptures to themselves. The same truths that inspired the early Saints can help us face our challenges today. As you teach the Doctrine and Covenants, help cla...

Re: Richard Bushman interview

I think we way overcomplicate things... I agree with Nibbler. I think we want revelation to be the list of things to do a d the prophet to be the person to tell us what to do, instead of realizing the gospel is to teach us to figure out what to do without being told to do so. Ministering visits and...

Re: Life's Ups & Downs

As I have learned there is no recipe for success that works for everybody for ups and downs, I've also learned no single recipe works for me also. There are times in my life prayer, scriptures, and church service and bishops advice have been what I needed. Other times, less prayer and more action. O...

Re: Amatonormativity and Temple Marriage

Great post, and thanks for sharing thoughts. I think from a certain point of view, temples and eternal marriage can be a beautiful and helpful thing. Some families build their life on it and it helps them. But when temple ordinances were written, it was not universal or all encompassing. That leads ...

Re: Pope endorses same sex civil unions

Does this make you think the LDS church is wrong to be so slow to make these kinds of changes? Does the world figure things out before God tells his prophets?

Re: Group Identity

[Divorce in the church sucks. I have a friend "Joe" who is not yet divorced (thanks to Covid issues slowing down the legal system), but should have by now. But wagging tongues are always a problem. For example, one inactive member went told me that "Joe" had committed adultery. I had to point out t...

Re: Group Identity

It can feel like there is only one way to be mormon and there is peer pressure to conform, since they reinforce the ideals so much. But I've truly learned the church is a tent large enough for a variety of mormon ways, and it is big enough to be different and be your own person. We often use the buf...
