The vast majority of bishops and branch presidents I know understand most active members, at least, much better than just the temple recommend questions.

I also know lots who are far more gracious in their view of temple worthiness now than I did as a younger member.

Our actual doctrine of eternal progression, more and more GC talks, and the latest temple endowment versions are full of grace.

It is my own favorite part of the recent evolution in the Church.

That is my instinct.

I have seen beards on temple workers (and some chin hair on some sisters ). I also know multiple bishopric counselors, EQ Presidents, and high councilors who now have beards.

Things are changing, but we aren’t where I would like to be yet.

The leadership talks a LOT more about grace now.

Elder Kearon is focused on that concept more openly and explicitly than any apostle in my lifetime, I think - even more than Elder Wirthlin was. I am sure it is his own nature, but I’m sure Elder Uchtdorf was an inspiration for him in that regard.
