Re: For What Do You Pray?
My own personal prayers are much less frequent now. I try not to ask for anything I'm not willing to work for. I think the biggest advantage to prayer is in giving thanks. My beliefs about the nature of God have changed since my FC. I no longer believe in a god who intervenes directly in our day to ...

Re: StayLDS Version of the Give Thanks Media Campaign
I firmly believe in the importance of giving thanks. Recognizing how fortunate you are is key to humility and happiness. It is a good thing to remind people to be thankful and I'm glad we have this holiday dedicated to gratitude. Unfortunately most of the examples of this "give thanks" thing going a...

Re: How to respond to missionaries
[...] I just didn't know you felt that way. I figured most posters on StayLDS were here because of disagreements with actual doctrine. Since I'm mostly in agreement with the doctrine and just find the policies and culture to be annoying, I found it nice to hear that I'm not alone in that. We are de...

Re: Is StayLDS at its end of life?
I think this forum has a lot of potential. I think it could help a lot of people if they new about it and gave it a chance. I fear that the people who need it the most don't know about it and/or are afraid to look. I don't know if its the same for others but for me sites like this, and especially mo...

Re: Bad trying to be good or good that does bad?
To answer the original question question you have clarify what you mean by good and bad or maybe the better words might be good or evil. We all sin and "fall short of the glory of God" but that is a different matter than being bad/evil. Sin simply means to miss the mark or fall short of the goal or ...

Re: Metrics and Agency
I do think it's important to measure things and set goals for improving things. But it's a problem when the numbers become the goal or the wrong numbers are emphasized. We need to put what is must important at the top and measure the things we can that relate to it. For example if making and keeping...

Re: Does God answer every prayer?
Expressing gratitude is the most immediate benefit of our generic prayers. Thanking God is often glossed over in our prayers because we often focus on our laundry list of wishes to be granted. Being grateful is the key to real happiness and thanking God for everything we are and have humbles us and...

Re: Does God answer every prayer?
I struggle with the same question. The short answer I'd give is no. There are over 7 billion people on this planet who could pray for 7 billion contradicting outcomes; even if you limit it to the roughly 2 billion Christians the "butterfly-effect" of all those prayers being "answered" would be chaot...

Re: Is Sacrament Meeting being held anywhere but Utah?
I live in northern Utah. My ward is going to start meetings this coming Sunday and every third Sunday after that. They are only doing 45min Sacrament meetings in two sessions with half the ward at a time. They aren't "mandatory" and those 65+ and other high risk individuals are told to stay home.

Re: New Reading Material Or Podcasts
The Rational Bible by Denis Prager. It's a commentary on the first books in the Bible (the Torah) from a Jewish perspective but written to people of all faiths and secular people. Only Genesis and Exodus are currently published right now. The Jews have been studying the Old Testament in it's origina...
