Re: How did you find out about JS' polygamy?
Joni, I too, have been a life long member and knew about polygamy in general, but I never knew about Joseph Smith's role in it until recent years and I am a guy in my fifties. The superficial "knowledge" I had about polygamy was also presented as something that would be considered noble as well, lik...

Re: How does this not drive some of you away
This is an excellent question, LH, and the whole suicide and lack of caring bothers me immensely.
I keep involved though because I want to be there if someone needs me. I hope I am walking the line such that one struggling for support because of their being gay feels they can approach me for help.

Re: Speaking up in class
I truly wish that we had a culture where we are encouraged to DISCUSS more – church would be so much more enjoyable and maybe we could learn about accepting the experiences or others who differ from us and decide to love them in spite of it. I am selective on what I will say in class, but I will alw...

Re: Nov 5 Policy
This is a tough one because on one hand, I feel totally complicit like some bystander who does nothing when help is what is needed and required. The one thing that bothers me most is just how frightened members are of discussing anything related to “gay” and how obvious they are about fearing it. I ...

Teacher Council Meetings
Just curious... Has anyone here been involved with any training from their stake about the new Teacher Council Meetings being rolled out? What is your take? For those who are not aware what the format of these meetings are, check out this link for a brief definition: https://www.lds.org/manual/teach...

Re: Giving a presentation on polygamy...help?
Wow QuestionAbound, Reading through this thread just broke my heart! I had such optimism for a positive outcome on the first couple of pages only to be shattered by what your experience evolved into when your presentation was given. I TOTALLY admire your willingness to jump into the furnace on this,...

Re: What to do about crazy lessons
Hi azguy, I haven't been on this forum much lately but saw your thread on this topic - it's a tough one but I felt like my approach might help you. I, like others here, opt for the Gospel Essentials class with my wife when I don't have an opportunity to teach a somewhat nuanced lesson to the youth (...

Re: Need Opinions/Help with the "Us vs Them" Mentality
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Loved the blog from the women who received all kinds of help in her struggles. I see this in the world today too. I agree that “us vs them” is a huge problem in our church as wayfarer has stated. It focuses on separating instead of supporting. In HPG group I really ...

Need Opinions/Help with the "Us vs Them" Mentality
I'm not sure why this bothers me so much and why I feel it my “duty” to disagree when it comes up in a class (or HPG as it may be yesterday), but it absolutely drives me crazy when there is a lesson or comments made about how wicked the world is getting with an emphasis on the misguided idea of “we ...

Re: Paranoia and Tattling
Ugh, Joni, this is such a bummer for you! I can't imagine what it must be like when a spouse is simply committed to doing the "right" things they are told as my wife and I are mostly on the same page. She does have a brother though, who is quite by the book - is a former bishop with a wife very "com...
