Re: Stake Conference this past weekend

For the reasons you mention MM, I prefer smaller units/groups to larger ones. I was assigned to a small branch for a number of years and really enjoyed that time. After the assignment was over, I moved back into my regular ward of over 250 people attending sacrament meeting. It's easier to be invisi...

Re: Stake Conference this past weekend

The innocence of a child is nice & inspirational but, it isn't always enough as an adult. For me personally, it would be helpful to hear how others who have gone through difficult situations as an adult, and come through the other side: to know how did they do that? I can't say I'm the best to ...

New garment style

Just in case you're out of the loop, there's a new garment top style where they've reduced the length of the sleeves. It's not quite a tank top but the sleeves are significantly shorter. These are being billed as a new style but my wife got garments like that a long time ago. They were discontinued....

Re: Stake Conference this past weekend

I missed our stake conference. Well I wouldn't say I missed it. Comedy cliché #349 for the day. Try the veal. It's been quite some time since I've prayed, or at least prayed the way I used to pray. Some member are going to think that if I don't receive an answer to my prayers, then there is somethin...

I quite like him. Another thing worth considering, he wasn't called to apostleship in a vacuum. That leaders tapped him to be an apostle gives me some hope.

Re: October General Conference 2024

...and the very next talk is about successfully convincing someone to take off their sunglasses in church.

But we're welcoming of people that are different.

Re: October General Conference 2024

I'm assuming Kearon is speaking to a church that he'd like to will into existence because it's certainly not a church I've experienced. Buckner's talk was also aspirational. I appreciate calling for a space for people to be different. It's just not my experience. Like at all. We're still in the mind...

Re: October General Conference 2024

Saturday afternoon: Christofferson's talk is one to skip. The theme was essentially don't rebel against god, in the sense that any departure from submitting to religious authority is rebellion.

He's had a few skippers in recent conferences.

Re: October General Conference 2024

If you can set aside all the baggage that comes with Oaks (sorry, not sorry) then his talk is another one that I'd pick for people from this session. David Homer's talk might be the one to avoid. Not terrible, but it's mostly church authority focused. Also, I found it odd, legitimately odd, that in ...

Re: October General Conference 2024

Saturday morning: Karl Hirst's talk is pretty good. My listening with one ear and forgot what he said already synopsis/takeaway is that god's love is both deeper and more accessible than you may have been led to believe. The other two talks didn't do much for me. Gotta bow out of the second half of ...
