Something Interesting Happened at Sacrament Meeting

The Stake President came today & brought a Bishop from the Episcopal Church. The Bishop gave a short talk that centered on the life & sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I have never seen that before & I thought it was great. As a church we want others to hear our message from our Missionaries & others. It w...

Re: Chapel Mormonism

My membership in the LDS church has been a unique experience. I joined when I was a senior in college. Prior to that event, I was a member of the Methodist church. It is interesting to compare & contrast organizations, beliefs & activity. As a Methodist, - you had very few close personal relationshi...

The book came out today. I just downloaded it on my tablet.

Again the title is:
Real vs Rumor

I hope it's good.

Re: Chapel Mormonism

The center of my faith is not the church. It's Jesus Christ. The church is a vehicle I use to hopefully draw closer to JC & to establish human contacts. I use the scriptures, (some) of the General Conference talks & personal revelation or inspiration. In terms of church, I take what I can use & leav...

Re: Considering coffee

If you don't like the taste, you can always try a cappuccino or a latte.
There are flavored creamers as well.
There are a number of things that you develop an acquired taste for over time.

This is not a commercial message for coffee.

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

This was an interesting article related to what we've been talking about. I've heard this story myself many years ago. https://www.ldsliving.com/Did-Brigham-Young-leave-empty-shafts-for-elevators-in-the-Salt-Lake-Temple-How-to-identify-assumptions-in-Church-history/s/94316?utm_source=ldsliving&utm_m...

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

Personally, I go back to Paul H Dunn. Can I tell any story in a SM or SS lesson as long as my goal is to motivate or inspire alone? I can't go back in time & talk to Joseph Smith. I accept his version of the 1st vision or I don't. For now I accept it. There was a time when I gave a Sacrament talk & ...

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

On the 2nd tab I brought up the example of Paul H Dunn & how he was removed as General Authority by the church for promoting stories that were found to be false. Not much is said about him or why he was removed. It would be interesting to know his motivation & why he told them. I want to believe tha...

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

As to whether stories are true... I guess, to me, it doesn't matter how true a story is . The point of these stories is not to relate history. When you hear these stories from Church leaders, the purpose is always to encourage behavior that will achieve the same results. Are you saying that we can ...
