Re: Priesthood Advancement

My son blessed the sacrament for the first time yesterday. It went well.

As the parent of a child on the autism spectrum, I appreciate that efforts are made to include my child. I believe that it is good and character building for him to have a responsibility within his faith community.

Re: Support StayLDS!

Hello again friends! Again, we have been supported financially by the same StayLDS member to the tune of $177.02. This means that StayLDS will continue at least until February 2024. Fortunately, this means that we are not in the position of desperately requesting donations. However, I do wish to rem...

Re: What is a "testimony" and why do leaders believe it to be so fragile?

“With frightening speed, a testimony that is not nourished daily ‘by the good word of God’ [Moroni 6:4] can crumble. Thus, the antidote to Satan’s scheme is clear: we need daily experiences worshipping the Lord and studying His gospel.” — President Russell M. Nelson, “ The Power of Spiritual Moment...

Re: What is a "testimony" and why do leaders believe it to be so fragile?

If I read the scriptures daily and pray to have spiritual experiences then I believe the likelihood of spiritual experiences will increase. I believe that even if the actual event (like getting a promotion) would have occurred without prayer and scripture study - the prayer and scripture study incr...

Re: What is a "testimony" and why do leaders believe it to be so fragile?

I am thinking of an analogy where LDS testimony is a train. The train is great. Many people have used it before me with successful results. The train is the LDS worldview and all of the train cars are the points of belief. The train can connect me back to cities and communities that might be far awa...

Re: What is a "testimony" and why do leaders believe it to be so fragile?

I believe that a "testimony" in the church context can mean a few different things simultaneously. I believe that a major definition is that you accept the worldview of the LDS church and practice interpreting your life through that lens. I believe that LDS people superimpose the LDS world...

Re: Child Baptism in a Few Years

I think I get the picture. I am reading that you would prefer for the baptism to be at least deferred but that you might be willing to let it go forward if you are not expected to participate beyond certain minimal levels (like attendance). In that case, it sounds like the lack of inertia might be y...

Re: I'm Thinking About Becoming More Active In Church

Right now, I have a calling as a ward missionary. The ward mission leader is a good friend of mine, and I really like that. After having my faith shift in the church, fulfilling my calling isn't as hard as I thought it would be. The ward has sister missionaries, so I don't have to worry about being...

Re: I'm Thinking About Becoming More Active In Church

I like all that has been shared about some various ways to look at the word infirmity. One approach that I like is: Firm = Solid/Hard Infirm = Soft/Weak Infirmity = frailty, fragility, weakness It is this definition on infirm and infirmity that we use in talking about the elderly. And [Jesus] will t...

Re: Priesthood Advancement

Out of curiosity, how far back does your PH lineage go in the family. How long is that tradition you're trying to maintain, or is it a new tradition? We have a PH advancement looming as well but in our case it's less about who gets to perform the ordinance and more about the PH advancement being......
