Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

I now know & understand that God doesn't work that way. It is difficult to explain that to most members I know. I have found this to be very difficult to explain to other members. I think that it just does not fit into their paradigm. I remember a church brother giving a lesson on obedience. He had...

Re: Going back to church...?

I have a TBM friend that has similar issues with anxiety and church attendance. She has to take prescription medication in order to get through church services. I find her example helpful in demonstrating that 1) Tica is not alone in this and 2) it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with faith ...

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

I think these stories are meant to address the following: 1) We believe in a God of miracles that is just as active today as He was in former times. Indeed, the formation of our church seems to be partly in response and rejection of the idea that God already did His work and set up His organization ...

Re: Could faith promoting stories be dangerous?

I think I am a casualty of these faith promoting stories. I think we have this mindset that almost anything that is said that motivates people to increase loyalty to the church is good and even more specifically anything that motivates them to pay their tithing is good. I believe that there is an "e...

Re: I choose to believe

Hello and welcome! Jesus is a good way to go. I love the redemptive power of that story. I too choose to believe. In saying this, I mean that I have very little evidence of what might happen after death, I choose to believe that we will continue on in some form and I choose to believe that close rel...

Re: Deeply disappointed about this development (SLC Temple)

I suppose there are no real downsides to playing the revelation card and it might be hard to overuse. Revelation is highly subjective so it is not ever anything that can be proven wrong. That said, my cynical side says if this was really revelation, why didn't God say something before they announced...

Re: Deeply disappointed about this development (SLC Temple)

I had heard about this. Wonderful news! I am very content and pleased that the top church leadership have "continued to seek direction of the Lord." It is my belief (and also church doctrine) that the Lord has much yet to reveal to us. Remaining humble enough to understand that we do not already hav...

Re: The Church and Freemasonry

Thank you answering all my questions. I think I have a pretty good idea how a believing latter day saint can also be a Freemason and separate out each of them internally!

Re: lazy and lax - April 2021

reiterated that faith is a choice. I have struggled with disentangling the things that come naturally to me from the things that I choose to do. I speculate that most of us justify the things that are in our nature. I further speculate that a good number of us feel superior because our nature does ...
