Re: Excommunication Regarding Outspoken Sexual Matters

Psychologists will tell you that pornography is not an addiction but can be a compulsory behavior. Psychologists go with prevailing trends, in this case sexual license. As I always remind people, they used to class being gay as a mental illness, now they class homophobia as one. All to do wth socie...

Re: Excommunication Regarding Outspoken Sexual Matters

There definitely are people for whom the Big P can become an addiction, it's a question of how many. Some people have spent an obscene amount of money on it (pun intended) or time. I think it can definitely warp your appreciation of other people especially if you get into dating. We see the pendulum...

Re: The Church and Freemasonry

Kipling knew Masonry was not a religion, but for some it became religion. There are definitely quasi-religious aspects to it, from the symbolism to the nature of the ceremonies. Much of the symbolism has obvious parallels to other religions, with a masonic twist. Nor "secret". Again as stated above...

Re: Newly baptized and overwhelmed

They are thinking you will stop coming to church if they don't load you up with activities. But as I've seen, sometime it will drive people out. The good news is that one of the biggest benefits of the church is the community. The more that you are active in participating in these things the more i...

Re: The Church and Freemasonry

My frame of reference could be off-base but I find it interesting how the Book of Mormon includes some themes that run parallel to the concerns of the Anti-Masonic Party; a party formed shortly after the 1826 disappearance of William Morgan from a town about 50 miles from Palmyra. Then just 12 year...

Re: General Conference April 2021 - Discussion Thread

If it's about setting a record, they're on their way. I do think the "ooo and ahh" temple moment was announcing 20 temples, and maybe that was in lieu of having an exotic place (Russia, China, Mongolia) to announce. Gotta get the wow factor somehow. And yet the one place that probably needs them, A...

Re: Is excommunication the worst the church can do?

If Christ were on the earth today, would He make it this complicated? Are there any examples in scripture where He excommunicated anyone? Good question. He was never very complimentary about someone betraying him, before Judas was named. The short answer is that Jesus did not establish a church in ...

Re: Is excommunication the worst the church can do?

I think it depends on what you are exed for. I mention two examples above. One is aggressive and banned, and the other is mild-mannered and active. The former needs medical treatment and the latter reconciliation. Obviously the worst case misdemeanors are murder and rape, and variations thereof, but...

Is excommunication the worst the church can do?

From the thread on the therapist being ex'd. A quote from this article https://www.yahoo.com/news/mormon-sex-therapist-ousted-faith-184321431.html While not a lifelong ban, the withdrawal of a person's membership by church leaders amounts to the harshest punishment available for a member of the fait...
