My sister was asked if she and her husband had oral sex. She told him it was none of his business and walked out. When my oldest son was a teenager he did the same when asked about masturbation. What other churches do this? Annoys me especially when I think of some of the stuff JS did morally behind Emma's back.

There was a time in our history when leaders were askign if oral sex was happening in people's lives. I have read this in different forums, and it was part of a cassette tape talk I had listened to when my family hit me with anti-Mormon literature. An ex-Mormon told me about that on the cassette tape. I even heard it from a friend after I was baptized -- I think it was the lingering effect of a policy gone wrong. Now Bridget has mentioned it yet another time.

So, I believe at one time it WAS part of the interview for TR. But people got their back up about it and the leadership backed off.

I was asked about masturbation in my missionary interview by my SP, by the way.

I am not sure if the interview for a mission is the same as a TR, but I was able to answer the question truthfully and in compliance, so it wasn't an issue.

I've got to think that 99 out of 100 BPs & SPs consider looking at porn as falling under the wider umbrella of the law of chastity. It's a given. That a BP or SP feels the need to ask a separate question specifically about porn tells me that they are aware that some members nuance the question in their minds and that they feel it's necessary to correct what they see as an erroneous line of thinking. From their perspective, looking at porn is a violation of the law of chastity. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Just to be perfectly clear, I was not asked an additional question. The questions was worded, "Do you live the law of chastity, which includes pornography?" But the point is well taken. The WoW analogy is good - it would be akin to saying "Do you live the Word of Wisdom, which includes caffeinated soda?" While it might be clear in their minds caffeinated soda should be included, it's not clear in my mind. Going even further in my own beliefs, I don't think the big M actually violates the law of chastity - but I would bet most bishops/SPs do think it's at least a more minor violation (although none of my sons were asked about it by our local leaders, one was asked at BYU). As I recall the law is explained in the temple as having no sexual relations with anyone to whom you are not legally and lawfully married. M is not a relation with someone else. Even given that more progressive leaders are not asking about it specifically in pre-mission interviews (and it's not part of the now official questions, formulated after my youngest son left) I'm pretty sure most members and leaders would still disagree with take on it. However, it's not their understanding I'm answering, it's my own.

I don;t think other churches do it because there isn't the temple recommend type interview. However, I am aware of at least one church that is even more strict on these things than ours and it is more of an expectation that if you are doing those things (which would include oral sex and masturbation) you will confess it.

The obvious problem with the big M is where fantasies lead.

That said, most men do it, especially from 12-30. I gather it's less common among women.

I dunno. Have you ever heard of Confession? The Catholics and Orthodox Church do it.

The oral sex question was roughly 35-40 years ago. It lasted for a very short time, officially, before enough people had reacted that it was rescinded. Individual leaders here and there kept asking, since everyone is a cafeteria Mormon in some way, but it disappeared officially pretty quickly due to the backlash.

I'm going to interpret your STake President's question the way Curtis might read the words...given his ability to see different meanings than everyone else in the same passage...

The SP said "Do you live the law of chastity, which includes pornography?"

A person could answer:

"Yes, I live the law of chastity, and I make it a habit to look at pornography at least once a week, so yes, I am in compliance."

or to be ambiguous

"Yes, I live the law of chastity, including the pornography part".

If the Law of Chastity was changed to include porn, baptisms and temple attendance would skyrocket.

Just saying. :P

What's the old saying?
