The Modesty Song

Post by Beefster » 30 Jan 2018, 22:12

Ran across this just now. I find it rather humourous.

Boys are governed by rules. Men are governed by principles.

Often I hear doubt being presented as the opposite of faith but I think certainty does a better job of filling that role. Doubts can help faith grow, certainty almost always makes faith shrink. --nibbler

As one commenter said, "Nothing in my life made me feel more like a sex object than being told that if I was not covered from x(shoulders) to y(knees) I would be sending inappropriate messages to boys. And no, being told my body is a *sacred* sex object did not make it any better."
"It is not so much the pain and suffering of life which crushes the individual as it is its meaninglessness and hopelessness." C. A. Elwood

“It is not the function of religion to answer all the questions about God’s moral government of the universe, but to give one courage, through faith, to go on in the face of questions he never finds the answer to in his present status.” TPC: Harold B. Lee 223

"I struggle now with establishing my faith that God may always be there, but may not always need to intervene" Heber13

This song was sung in my home and stake for several weeks. It's meant to be lighthearted and silly. They keynote phrase is "I'm saving my armpits for my wife."

I get that the phrase "modest is hot" is self-contradictory and not helpful, but the song is kind of funny.

As long as modesty continues to be defined by dress, stop and consider which arouses more unholy and impure thoughts, total nudity at a nude beach or nudist resort or a woman or man in a thong bikini/swimsuit.

This is what I thought the OP was about. It is a running joke in our house.

Saving my armpits for my wife seems to be a tongue in cheek slam on the concept. I also sense self-contradiction.

I am trying to get my wife to not use the word "modest" in our home. I hope that we can explain our wardrobe preferences using different words than "that is not modest". If we cannot, then I believe that says much about us.
