I've read elsewhere that her testimony was recorded for her LGBT friends in a "Rainbow Mutual" event she attends once a month.
I misremembered: what I read didn't say the group meets once a month. (I wonder if it's the group that the Encircle house in Provo hosts.)

In fact, here's what I read, from NewNameNoah:
Savannah had a lot of extended family members who knew she was going to essentially come out as gay publicly for the first time in her life. She wanted them to record it so she could share a positive experience with her friends in the "Rainbow Mutual" group she's a part of. (That's LGBTQ Mormon youth who meet separately from heterosexual Mormon youth because they don't feel welcome in the "normal" Mormon youth groups.)
Apparently, there's more than one recording, too.

From a cursory inspection, it looks staged. Upon closer inspection, everything about it looks totally legit.
On the timing of the story, for those who think this was staged, the story was originally posted as text on r/exmormon on May 9th and was highly upvoted. We then heard nothing about it for over a month until NewNameNoah posted the video 5 days ago (June 14th). This looks like something genuine that later got attention, not staged.

My thoughts - Because you are all waiting for them

1 - I just returned from a trip/wedding to the corridor area. 2nd F & T to the pulpit was an 11 year girl who began her testimony with "Last month I spoke to you about pornography. This month I want to talk to you about the music you listen to." And off she went for 10 mins. (I do not exaggerate). Yet no one turned the mic off or tapped her on the shoulder. Clearly she had mentally prepped her discourse. True paper wasn't attached. No one I know video-d but honestly. The stories sound alike to me. If I were to judge I would lay it at the Bishop's feet. Double because he decided he should use a public blog to tell his side of the story. Bad form. Seriously Bad Form.

2 - Give up the handbook reading, etc. Elder Holland clearly stated this past General Conference that there must be room in the celestial Mormon Choir for Same Gender Attracted members. Story done. Again - Bishop out of line. - Follow the Prophet...

3 - If it happens in my ward - I plan to rush up, hug that girl (or whomever) and bear a testimony that God loves everyone.

Rant done. Thanks.

These testimonies are not speeches or talks. They are not pre-written. They are not a time of advocacy. They are short, extemporaneously expressed, heartfelt feelings about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how we have been strengthened by it.
And yet, when the Ward Weirdo bore his testimony of Trump, he was allowed to finish speaking.

They may be able to explain this incident away, but it's just the tip of the iceberg. The Church isn't only going to lose Savannah, they're going to lose an entire generation of Savannahs. The current leadership has decided this is acceptable. And when the excrement hits the oscillating device, the current leadership will mostly be dead.

I think they're very concerned about, but they're clueless about how to deal with it. They've got to see eventually that digging in their heals on dogma isn't going to work. On the other hand, my BYU son tells me there are plenty of conservative young people to go around there.

I could honestly see my bishop and SP joining us. Personally I think that's pretty cool, but I can't say it for all the bishops in my stake or for both SPCs.

This maybe the best line of this entire thread.

I know a couple of HC guys and a handful of women who would join from my ward. I am loving this.
