Good Day at 'Church' Yesterday

Post by SilentDawning » 16 Dec 2013, 11:27

Had an odd Sunday. My daughter sick, our house ripped apart due to renovations, and I had school work (student work) to do that took about 8 hours. so, my wife and kids all unanimously voted to stay home.

I painted a desk with my son. My daughter slept and rested, and my wife assembled furniture. The house was busy as a beehive, and my son and I bonded over the painting. He learned how to open a paint can, close it, hammer it shut without splattering paint everywhere, how to dip the brush in the bucket without submerging it up to his hand, and how to assemble and disassemble handles.

Everyone got along and it was very Zion-like with everyone helping each other at different times (except my sleeping daughter).

I thought it was a highly spiritual day, and a great alternative to church for that day.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. No price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

Fantastic Silent Dawning. We had a similar day in my house. My daughter is recovering from surgery, so we stayed with her, put up our Christmas tree, and enjoyed the quiet.

I do miss singing Christmas Carols in church, I love singing O Little Town of Bethlehem with a ward.
"I stayed because it was God and Jesus Christ that I wanted to follow and be like, not individual human beings." Chieko Okazaki Dialogue interview

"I am coming to envision a new persona for the Church as humble followers of Jesus Christ....Joseph and his early followers came forth with lots of triumphalist rhetoric, but I think we need a new voice, one of humility, friendship and service. We should teach people to believe in God because it will soften their hearts and make them more willing to serve." - Richard Bushman

What a good exercise in "trading up" SD. Always trade up. :D

Good family time is good family time. Period.
I see through my glass, darkly - as I play my saxophone in harmony with the other instruments in God's orchestra. (h/t Elder Joseph Wirthlin)

Even if people view many things differently, the core Gospel principles (LOVE; belief in the unseen but hoped; self-reflective change; symbolic cleansing; striving to recognize the will of the divine; never giving up) are universal.

"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." H. L. Mencken

My wife surprised me with nearly the same thing. We were in sacrament meeting, the sacrament was just finishing and she said, "I want to go home." I said, "OK, let's go". We did, after my kid sang with the primary. This happens periodically, I think it is my wife understanding my need to be gone.
