This is often location specific, but that's not to say it's not a widespread issue in the church. Some wards/stakes are much better (or much worse) than others. Our ward, and our stake in general, isn't bad and talks are mostly Christ centered in my ward.
I need to hear Jesus love for me. Where am I going to find it?
I have a couple possible answers.
1) You could try another ward (even within a stake some are much better than others and it is influenced by leadership). You could try another church. I can't think of a time when I have attended another church (Protestant or Catholic) where Christ was not the prominent element of the worship service.
2) Having missed church for a few years you might have missed the "home centered, church supported" effort. Clearly you don't feel the church support part of that (understandably, and I've been there too). If the church isn't supporting your gospel efforts, you need to relay more heavily on the home centered part. The Spirit is not only present at church (many times I don't feel it there at all). You don't need the church (or anyone else) to teach you about Jesus, you have everything you need at home. I would suggest a study
(as opposed to a reading) of the four gospels. It worked for me. I don't know you very well, but maybe the Book of Mormon works for you because it works for some people.
Lastly, I have sat through many sacrament talks where I am not uplifted or edified. The emphasis is on sat. I'll use this past Sunday as an example, and the caveat is that the talks were not horrible and they were fairly Christ centered - the speakers themselves just weren't all that great on delivery. Out comes the tablet. This Sunday I reread a couple of my favorite GC talks. Some Sundays I catch the topic and "write" (in my head) my own sermon. Other Sundays I research whatever topic I'm interested in at the moment (I like to do my gospel study by topic as opposed to going through a book). Some Sundays I'm just not into it at all and look at other stuff (no, not porn, and it's blocked anyway). I recently had one of those days and researched some birds that had visited my feeder. I do find some meaning in the sacrament and I do manage to focus during that part. FWIW, and this is just me, I always read from the last few chapters of one of the four gospels during the sacrament, staring with the Last Supper and ending with the resurrection. Second hour is generally a free for all for me, I look at whatever I want (again, not porn). I am usually disengaged second hour.
