Re: New Video Format of Temple Endowment

I haven’t done the new sealings so I can’t comment on that. However there is a specific place in the endowment where just a few words left out and to me the meaning is unchanged but I don’t feel free to be so specific here as to the wording of the ordinances. BJE, I tend to agree with you that 99% ...

Re: The Nature of Men in the LDS Church

As a follow up thought to this. I believe that what is acceptable in corporate culture has also been shifting. There is a shift away from "boys will be boys", "the boys club", the glass ceiling etc. Sexual harassment is a big no-no (quid pro quo or hostile work environment). Hitting another is almos...

Re: New Video Format of Temple Endowment

I love that the sexist elements have been significantly removed from the endowment. That is as close as it gets to changing doctrine. I would be willing to sit through a number of tedious meetings to help bring about that change. To me it seems they just left out a few words to appease women but th...

Re: The Nature of Men in the LDS Church

I believe that there is definitely some truth to this. In my mission in south America it was customary for many men to go play soccer and drink with the guys on Sunday. Not all men did this but enough of them did that it was seen as the macho thing to do. When a man was baptized into the church they...

Re: Has the church really changed

I see the church changing in big and small ways. It is much like the United States in that way. There are some core principles that are very difficult to change because of the unique history of the founding of the organization. I see the right to bear arms as part of that unique United States histor...

Re: De-emphasis on Food Storage?

When I was a kid in the 70’s not only was a years supply of food and fuel preached but also we were told we needed to be prepared to walk to Jackson county Missouri to build the new Jerusalem. When I asked why we’d have to walk I was told we’d have to flee on foot because there would be no fuel. Yo...

Re: Share the Good?

They are looking for multiple ways to share the stories, your own blogs and social media, church magazines, local press. The idea is to spread happy news and inspirational ideas to others. With the hope of giving others ideas they can use where they live and also begin a tide of more positive spin ...

Re: What is Priestcraft? Is THIS Priestcraft?

1) If this story is to be believed and Elder Oaks called this practice priestcraft then I expect he was responding to the idea of creating a priestly class. If we add some requirement of formal education in order to serve in certain callings in the church then we may be doing something similar to ot...

Re: Inching Closer to Inclusion

I like that the photo shows RMN holding, shaking, or embracing the hand of Barbara, the leader of OnePULSE (it appears that RMN is cupping Barbara's extended hand in both of his hands). I agree that it might not be especially significant (RMN must shake many, many hands). However, it at least is a s...
