Re: Strange Results from Gospel Living

When I stopped going to church nearly 11 years ago now my oldest was 12 and the youngest was 6. My wife has remained very TBM and has taken them to church each and every Sunday, and they've done seminary as well. They are aware of some of my doubts and there have been things that they have not parti...

Re: Are you concerned about your personal/family salvation?

I'd like to hear your answer, too, SD. I've actually gone through stages of this. When my crisis of faith began I was concerned. Later, as I became agnostic and nearly atheist, I didn't care because I didn't believe those teachings anyway. The truth is at this time I don't know. I'm not sure I accep...

Re: Looking for advice

Welcome, Chuck. it took me a lot longer to find this site, I'm glad you found it earlier on your path. You mention that you cold have lived the lie and gotten married, etc., and you probably could have for a while. Eventually, though, you would have had to deal with it and I think it's better you're...

Re: Strange Results from Gospel Living

On another point, a widow here is quite bitter about how she wasn't helped out with a loan for funeral costs. Her husband paid full tithes for about fifty years. As a result, the adult children are angry at the church. The son paid his mother the loan, and complained about how rich the church is......

Re: Strange Results from Gospel Living

The online seminary program is very good for an online program. Some kids would thrive who don't do well in a traditional early morning program, but other kids need the live interaction and would flounder in an online program. I'd like to have both available, no pressure either way, and allow paren...

Re: Strange Results from Gospel Living

If the church was sensible, seminary would be held at weekends and after school... but instead they do the early morning thing even though most kids can barely get up for regular school. My first home teacher was a hardcore TBM, bullied me about not wearing white shirts, told me off for asking ques...

Re: Hi I'm new

Welcome, please know you are not alone. Many of us will relate to your experiences on some level, many have had similar experiences, and we all understand. I totally agree with you - paying tithing, temple attendance, FHE, prayer, or whatever else does not certify aything as far as "blessings" go. J...

Re: happy thanksgiving to all

I just want to thank all of you for the love and support you have been to me this last year. I am trying to count my blessings and this site has been one of them. I hope all your travels are safe and that that your turkeys are plump and juicy. For you in other parts of the world, I hope good things...

Re: Everyone Tells the Stories that Make the Most Sense to T

Thanks for sharing, Ray. I had read a similar article recently (perhaps it was actually a commentary on this article), and you're right - history often changes in retrospect. That is, the history itself doesn't change, but the facts are brought together to give a bigger picture of what happened. Ove...
