Re: 1st Sunday councils

HPGs will be the slowest to change. YSA EQs/RSs will probably be the fastest and will probably get the most benefit out of it. I'm not so sure it will be toughest on HPGs. I have visited many, and the level of teaching and discussion is consistently higher than elders quorums I have also visited. M...

Re: Keeping Joy

Welcome, and thanks for introducing yourself. All in all it sounds like you're doing OK and hanging in there, better than I did. FWIW, I have never been to a ward where the sacrament was not taken out to the foyer for late arrivers and others and I've never heard of any policy against that (except i...

Re: 1st Sunday councils

Ours was fine as I expected it to be - things like that are right down our HPGL's alley and our group responds well. Today we talked about what we want to do for future ones and sort of laid out some common rules (no criticism of others' ideas, etc.). I understand there are concerns in many places, ...

Re: How much to push son towards early morning seminary

I am for the most part opposed to early morning seminary as a relic of a bygone era. I understand there are people who love it, or at least say they do (having nothing else to compare it to). There is absolutely NO research to support that it's good for teenagers to get up early and do this, while t...

Re: The White Bear Problem

It is ironic that "hum your favorite hymn" actually is decent advice - simply because it substitutes something else in place of whatever the original thought was. I agree that letting go of guilt about being human is liberating and empowering. Urges are normal. So are some actions we mistakenly cal...

Re: The White Bear Problem

I'm with you there LH. I call it letting go of the guilt, but it's the same principle. There's no sense in people beating themselves up over things that are natural. Likewise for some of the conservative Christian/Puritan ideals that have crept into our "doctrine" (and aren't really doctrine at all)...

Re: Russell M. Nelson's age & lifetime

And just to put us in our place, the Universe will let him live until he is 103. He is spry, lucid, with a young wife. We are going to need to sit back and enjoy the ride. Between me and the lamppost I am hoping for a Harold B. Lee. But I am not holding my breath. *A Harold B. Lee refers to Preside...

Re: The White Bear Problem

You almost lost me on that one Sam, but I get it. You make a good point. But there are things we need to know about bears - white or not - that can only be understood if we think about them.

Re: President Monson Passes

What would this forum group say will be the thing Monson will be remembered for? I would hope it would be his message of love. In the days when I was not a Monson fan it was mostly because I found him boring and uninteresting. He would tell all these stories about the old widows when he was a 21-ye...

Re: FP under RMN Presidency

Interesting thoughts. I agree that we will likely see a retrenchment to a sort of 80s version of the church, and I think RMN already sees things as revelation that I don't necessarily see as revelation- or at least he says he does. Saying things you advocate for are revelation is a good way to contr...
