Re: Disingenuous, Apathetic, and Aloof

As an active home teacher I appreciate the change. We really needed less box ticking. Totally agree, even though I am not so active with it. I think it can be validly argued that home teaching was just re-defined and that they have been attempting to do so for the last several years until it came t...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

In general the idea of God being a 'King' makes sense coming from a society where the king was the ultimate Authority. This idea is discussed in The Christ Who Heals . Givens basically asserts that theology changed from original Christianity where God was the benevolent Father to people becoming se...

Re: Lost Time Listener First Time Caller

I don't have a ton of time, I just wanted to say welcome. I appreciate your perspective on what makes Jesus the Savior and will ponder on that a bit - I think it may fit my own faith narrative.

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

Awesome quotes Roy. I love the feeling behind them. But as a follow up question, what's the point? I mean, if this life is supposed to be a teaching experience to make us Christ-like, celestial beings, but we can all "come around" in the next life, what are we doing here? If this life is a test, bu...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

^ Thanks Roy. Love it. And you did a great deal of research I now won't have to do. They asked for a talk on family history and the temple and by golly they're going to get one like they've never heard before! (as sure as the sun rose over yonder mountain) ;)

Re: Suicide and Hell - LDS Answer 2018

I didn't love the section with John Dehlin, as I felt like he exaggerated and demonized church policies more than necessary. But overall I felt like it was not placing blame as much as highlighting the need for change, if that makes sense. Yes...that makes sense. And I agree. Agreed, I also am not ...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

No doubt Amy there is a great deal of dogma associated with family history and temple stuff. More specifically, it is the dogma I am trying to avoid.

Believer (HBO)

The documentary about Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons. I watched it and liked it. A major premise is that we need more voices and I agree. I also cried at a couple of the teen suicide stories. Even if the Utah higher suicide rate has not actually increased or is not due to the church's LGBTQ stance,...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

yet...makes you wonder...why did the prodigal son avoid for so long coming home? Why did he feel so guilty, so ashamed, and so worried about what his father would do? Was it what his father actually did and said to him, or what he feared his father would say or do? Did he have to get so desperate, ...
