Re: Women and the Priesthood -- Doctrine or Policy?
shows a real lack of faith that Christ is in charge. Do they think Christ isn't aware of this question about the priesthood? If it's going to happen, it will happen when Christ wants it to. I actually think that this is an interesting way for one to rationalize all the stuff that happens in the chu...

Re: Temple History
Lately my solution to church history has been to embrace it, to find the good in it, and I've found quite a bit. Not to take us too far off topic but when comparing the early church to the modern church I see some qualities I really like in each. For example, I like how the early church was more op...

Re: The Saga of Turin Turambar Continues
Thank you for the update and I am so glad that you are doing well. I think I am conflicted on this. Part of me wants you to find a church community/family that will answer your need for spirituality/connectedness while allowing you to be your full self at the same time. But that doesn't fit the miss...

Re: NYT article: John Dehlin & Kate Kelly face discipline
I agree with you Shawn. If one takes the approach that God gave the priesthood to men and will never give it women - then action against Kate was inevitable. I suppose that's the big question. 50 or 100 years from now will women have the priesthood and women like Kate come across as ahead of their t...

Re: What to say to returning people
I would simply want people to be warm and open with me if I returned. I would want them to ask about my family, what projects I'm working on right now, and include me in any activities I might find interesting. Ask my how one of my widely publicized hobbies was going. This! If you do have time then...

Re: The Future of Ordain Women?
I suppose it depends. If the mission of OW is to push for change in the LDS church - how does that help if most of the members become excommunicated. You could continue the fight to the benefit of those members that remain and have at least tacitly rejected you or to the benefit of future generation...

Re: Civil Rights in the Church and Society
Richard Bushman in RSR described how Oliver Cowdery tried to bring in democratic principles of checks & balances etc. at his [Oliver's] diciplinary hearing. It didn't go very well for him.

Re: The "sandy soil of doubt and uncertainty"
Roy you said I have heard at another church that they hope to make an environment where people would choose to spend time - even if they didn't agree with the doctinal The real kicker for me is - the very book that anchors this church The Book of Mormon commands, from the mouth of Jesus Christ, tha...

Re: Temple History
This reminds me of an experience in college. We were reading some flood stories attached to creation myths from several ancient cultures. One student responded that the story of Noah and the flood must have been plagiarized from these older sources. That is one possibility, but then I also read of a...

Re: The "sandy soil of doubt and uncertainty"
I think I understand that we (as we, the church) are supposed to work with people where they are and not where we want them to be. In other words, we don't move the seeds from the sandy soil, we nourish them in it because that's where they are. GReat point DJ. Unfortunately, if that is our mission ...
