Re: When the Temporal and the Spiritual Collide

A simple but important note about the Idaho case: The actual law says an ecclesiastical leader cannot report a confessed crime unless the perpetrator gives their permission. The law needs to change , but, in this case, the Bishop and the Church had no legal way to report it. I am NOT saying anything...

I loved what I saw of it and the collaboration with so many great charities.

New Apostle Announced

Elder Patrick Kearon has been called as the new Apostle.

I am really excited about this calling. He is a convert (1987), and his last General Conference talk is one I loved. It feels to me, within the current Q12, he is most similar to Elder Uchtdorf.

Re: Are we as hated as we think we are?

Yes (by some) and no (by others).

Honestly, in my best Forrest Gump voice, “That’s all I have to say about that”. 😀

Re: Will the cultural bubble in Utah ever burst?

It has been happening for a while. It is most pronounced in SLC, which actually is a regional culture Mecca and highly-ranked area for LGBTQ+ people, but the general bubble is bursting even more with the rise of my children’s generations. It isn’t the Utah of my childhood anymore, and that is a good...

Re: Why is the church buying football tickets for missionaries?

I have no problem with it, especially since I am 99.9% certain it was from a donation - but I would be fine with each mission paying for them to attend some popular social event as an entire mission every year to make sure everyone had at least one chance to participate. As long as there were strict...

Re: Garments upon Death

I want to be created. If I am buried, I want it to be in whatever way brings the most peace to my wife, if I die first - which would be in my temple clothing. If she goes first, my kids can choose - and I think the active ones would support my wish to be cremated. If there is a physical resurrection...

Re: TR, Goals, & Tithing

The goal is exactly what you know it is: Help you become “fully active” (including temple attendance). It is from a core of real love, but it does not come from a place of understanding. My advice: You need to decide what you want and communicate it to your Bishop. If you do want to feel pressured b...

Re: Getting endowed - a bit anxious

The latest change to the endowment states clearly and explicitly that everything in it is symbolic. That allows each person to choose how to see everything in ways that make sense to them. I have seen it as symbolic for a long time - and the symbolism I choose to see is my favorite aspect of Mormoni...

Re: Hello

Welcome. I hope finding us is good for you in some way - that we can help in a way. I also hope you can help us. Don’t worry about the length of your introduction. It really isn’t that long compared to some. 🙂 One of the great and terrible things about the Church is the same about people, generally:...
