Re: Two hour church experiences

The current alternating week format seems "clunky." In the past we've struggled with things like: Oh, it's fast Sunday (1st Sunday). I forgot. Oh, I forgot it was 5th Sunday combined. We didn't plan anything. Is this 3rd or 4th Sunday? Are we supposed to read a conference talk or do the council, or...

Re: I need help with a lesson, please?

Except for the lines toward the end where Nelson coaches people how to respond to questions like, "Are you Mormon/LDS?" the talk was exclusively focused on the official name of the church itself. Witnessing people's takeaway from the talk, I thought the talk was on trying to excise the word "Mormon"...

Re: I need help with a lesson, please?

I skipped last conference and digested this talk via memes. After reading it for the first time.  I'll start off with a light post. “Some years ago while serving in the office of public affairs of the Church in Mexico, [a companion and I] were invited to participate in a radio talk sh...

Re: Two hour church experiences

We ended up with a few logistical issues. One that might be common in many wards and one that I'm sure is uncommon. 1) There were more people in SS than what we're used to seeing, lots more. Now that other SS classes like gospel essentials and the like have gone away that means there's one class for...

Re: Changes and more changes

Similar to Wilford Woodruff's, "The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray." maybe framing the changes as revelation is the only way for some members to accept them.

Re: Come Follow Me - Pilot Best Practice

A few videos were shown during SS today and one of them was a testimonial from people about the Come Follow Me program. I suspect that's another reason they do the pilot programs, so they can have testimonials ready on day one of the rollout.

Re: Two hour church experiences

To keep our SM at just an hour we're going to have to install a huge scoreboard somewhere the entire congregation can see it, set the timer on it to an hour, press the countdown button, and when the timer hits 0:00 this obnoxiously loud horn goes off, like at the end of a basketball game. :P Who is ...

Re: Is it Good to be Ungrateful?

what would happen if I truly managed to find a way to become completely and totally grateful for all I currently have and have zero sorrow/envy for things I don't have? I believe accomplishing something like that would be very counterproductive. If someone were completely grateful and content with ...

Re: Thoughts on the temple changes?

I think back to 5 years ago (or thereabouts) when they released 3 (or thereabouts) films. I think a part of that effort was to spark interest to increase temple attendance and to keep things fresh, not seeing the same video over and over again. People came back to the temple just to see the new film...

Re: Thoughts on the temple changes?

The film is the best part of the endowment. Agree with making it more friendly to women, but cutting the film? I'd rather cut some of the other stuff down. The slideshow thing may be a reflection of getting the changes out as quick as possible and not slowing down to wait on the production of new f...
