Re: Questions About Faith

Amateur Parent (another participant here) has mentioned about the sparrows or birds of the air referenced by Jesus in Matt. 6:26. The verse seems to indicate that God will provide, yet the birds existence is a hard one. Short busy lives. High mortality rates. Death by freezing, starvation, or viole...

Re: Questions About Faith

I have been taught that faith in a commandment is following a commandment believing that a reward will follow before having any certainty. For what it's worth. Yesterday we had a whole lesson on just that. Often I hear doubt being presented as the opposite of faith but I think certainty does a bett...

Re: Can we "buy" blessings?

... if you need to be threatened in order to do good, then you're not a good person. ... The person issuing the threat or the person being threatened? Or both to some degree? We spent some time during Sunday school yesterday on the following from the Book of Moses: ...this is a cursing which I will...

Re: Can we "buy" blessings?

Buddhism might use words like cause, effect, and conditions. The effects may be the blessings we desire and the cause may be all the things we do in an attempt to earn them. I'm throwing conditions into the mix as well. I believe they play an important role that often gets forgotten in the quid pro ...

Re: How to ask in faith without feeling jerked around

Thank you, nibbler. I guess my understanding of the Atonement was that Christ performed that act so that we wouldn't have to, in order to spare us; that He took upon himself that suffering in part so that He would be able to succor us in our times of need. He says, I'm going to leave you, but I'll ...

Re: "Obedience"

Any outside voices of authority, like those of studied psychologists, can represent a threat to authority. More so if those voices are saying something different.

Also, I'd fully expect someone who is sold on feeling dependent on the church doctrines to sell dependence on the church doctrines.

Re: How to ask in faith without feeling jerked around

Also, because of my experience being cut off from the spirit (despite doing all the things I knew of to be able to feel it: prayer, scripture study, humility, trying to be like Christ, etc.) I have a hard time believing those scriptures about how we will not be left comfortless, or how the Holy Gho...

Re: Time's Up

Thanks for the update. I'm guessing the call with the SP1C was about extending the ward clerk calling (since that calling is one extended by the stake). The silver lining of extending a new calling to you is that they still want you to be a part of the spiritual community. My head would be racing if...
