Re: In Defense of the Name Emphasis

Is the Mormon moniker considered bad? If so, if all we change is the name will whatever conditions that caused people to feel the label Mormon is negative persist and taint whatever new name (in this case old name) we give ourselves? It's anecdotal but I often hear scenarios play out where someone t...

Re: I can’t believe in anything anymore

I’m not as interested in altering the traditional definitions and understandings of terms in order to make my current beliefs still sound orthodox as I am in trying to figure out if I even believe at any level anymore. I do tend to get lost in definitions. Words are symbols, we create meanings behi...

Re: I can’t believe in anything anymore

I get hung up on definitions. One might say that there's no such thing as the supernatural, that by definition if something occurred it was natural, the issue is that we simply don't understand what we witnessed. Maybe that's just the word we use to symbolize that thought; supernatural is something ...

Re: Evangelical Millenial's at Odds With Their Faith

I'm not sure how to comment on the article without getting political. I really struggle in this camp and I'll try to tread lightly. I'll quote Jesus and lay the burden of the words at his feet: This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is fa...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

I don't mean to say that the top leaders have no concern for the average member, 2 hour church and all that, but I do lament that people that have legitimate concerns sometimes get on the excommunication radar if they find themselves out ahead of the leaders.

Re: Prophets rule the roost

I do think that this viewpoint tends to lesson the role of those church presidents that came before ... unless one takes the view that all of them are prepared and foreordained to do and emphasize exactly the things that they did as church president. You could go the route of the saints not being p...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

She seems to be saying that God has been preparing RMN for his entire mortal and premortal life for this exact role in this exact time. Therefore the things that have bothered RMN for years but that he never had the power to change until now - they may have been implanted by the Lord into President...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

Faith in leaders helps many people feel better about their life, gives some sense of certainty that life is not all random and depressing. Church and the teachings of prophets can provide that. I'm not sure how successful missionaries would be if the message was... - We have some pretty good people...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

I don't buy into this line of thinking but it does make one wonder, how does god take care of the church?

Does god inspire the current leader of the church or does god play whack-a-mole until the person with the right inspiration is last man standing?

Or the Old El Paso approach, por qué no los dos?

Prophets rule the roost

Sorry for the thread title, I didn't know what else to call this thread but I wanted to put together some ideas that were floating around in to separate threads without thread jacking either thread. First the quotes: Here's the thing. The Church's STATED reason for the string of recent changes, I st...
