Re: Theology of Star Wars

Some of the spiritual ideas that Star Wars was based on, was not really known in the West. It gave people some measure of faith. Do or do not, there is no try. It's all about confidence in one's self that you can do what you set out to do. The Force. Christ says He is in all things and through all t...

Re: Church to allow baptisms, blessings for children of LGBT parents, updates handbook regarding 'apostasy'

Old Guard thoughts What will happen is that the Old Guard will say it was a test of faithfulness for hte members and that's why they are both revelations from God, and any who left the church in protest failed the test. Nibbler, your Old Guard story reminds of when I was flat out told once that I ha...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

I would have to see that. I am not aware of that claim from the Church. There are tons of articles and books by LDS folk and by FARM talking about the connection. Lemme clarify. Not ALL of Harry Potter made me feel the Spirit, just certain parts of it where some good ol' truth is right there. The m...

Re: After temple ordinances...am I done?

it will all work out in the Millenium anyway and we will all be perfect when we're exalted. UGH. We sure know how to take a beautiful doctrine and turn it into poison. The other challenge of having a stillborn child is that they are not recorded as a live birth and therefore not eligible for church...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

If the BOM is good, it's good whether or not its historical. It's historical accuracy and authenticity should not matter. The fact that it DOES matter, rubs me the wrong way. I think the church tries to have it both ways by saying that we should not necessarily look for proofs that the BoM is histo...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

The historicity is of little importance to me. That said, Harry Potter doesn't make me feel the Spirit. I'm interested in the BoM as a text. It is our scripture and somehow I find it a cut above the POGP and D&C. i believe as a work of literature, it is deceptively simple and has more complexity th...

The following is a comparison of the Emily Partridge experience from her own words and from Saints. It comes from the earlier thread on Saints that Curt linked.
Thank you for sharing that. Those two version are quite different.

If the BOM is good, it's good whether or not its historical. It's historical accuracy and authenticity should not matter. The fact that it DOES matter, rubs me the wrong way. I feel you. I actually said in church once that I don't care if the BoM is historical. My testimony of the BoM is not based ...

Re: After temple ordinances...am I done?

The disconnect that causes the anger for most people with regard to vicarious ordinace performace is the undertsandable confusion about the difference between it (truly voluntary acceptance or rejection) and typical Christian baptisms that are considered binding simply because they have been perfor...

Re: After temple ordinances...am I done?

This really speaks to me. Most here know my faith crisis story that was precipitated by the stillbirth of our daughter. I was in grief and spiritual agony wondering if I had perhaps failed to secure the blessings to ensure a live birth. At one point I received a strong feeling or prompting that I w...
