Re: Church This Week

I usually run nursery for 2nd and 3rd hour as a personal assignment when I attend church (I am a mom with a clingy toddler) - Not an official calling. I found out 2 weeks ago that our branch doesn't actually have a called nursery leader. I have an Amazon playlist of thematically appropriate church s...

Amy, perception does seem to be crucial. I just really struggle to perceive that talk in what I am sure is the spirit of what Elder Oaks is saying. It's just so foreign to me as a father.
I can relate - I am not a fan of that talk in part for that reason.

Re: Individualization

I liked that talk, thank you for sharing. I guess Elder Oaks is entitled to his opinion as well. Maybe it's just that, his spirituality, How he sees things. One of the things I have learned in my current path is that everything is how someone perceives something . I can see what President Oaks was ...

Re: She Preached The Word

I am highly interested in figuring out how to shift the power dynamic so that women truly are partners in the church, rather then subjects of the church in a way that is a "win-win" solution for all parties involved. I think there needs to be a balance between equality and meeting the unique needs ...

Re: Individualization

I have an idea of how to, maybe, look at that talk and see a way around it. What if my personal revelation is valid, so long as it fits in some way with priesthood revelation. Maybe I don't have to agree 100% in every aspect, just be able to see what they are saying. Maybe what God means is that we...

She Preached The Word

I picked up the book, "She Preached The Word" by Cammie Jo Bolin and Benjamin R. Knoll. I had listened to a podcast about it previously, and thought I would give it a try. It reads fairly easily (I was able to read the first chapter of the book while chasing my toddler at the library and kept my pla...

Re: A Healthier Approach to the Porn Dilemma

I'm sure the Church and other moral crusaders like some feminists mean well with this but what I don't think they realize is how much of an uphill battle this really is. So instead of actually stopping or even reducing the viewing of porn/nudity in many cases the main thing all the demonization and...

Re: Good things that happen at church

Is there a way to drop some of those formalities to make the block more enjoyable? I think it would be awesome if they rearranged the 3 hour block like this: -1st hour: Sacrament Meeting 2nd hour: Lunch. Have a potluck, social gathering to build comradery. Maybe tie in some Sunday service, like pac...

Re: Good things that happen at church

Nibbler - this may seem trite, it is meant with sincerity, I am sending hugs. Like Heber said, I am glad you found some bright spot in life. That love exists somewhere. I am coming to the conclusion that life is perception. The hardest part is not having someone to share your perception with. I thi...

Re: Labels as Limitations

This is why, I think, labels are especially harmful. For example, if I say "I'm such an idiot", I am declaring "idiot" as an essential characteristic to my self. If I said "That was not a very smart thing to do", "idiot" is not declared an essential characteristic to my self. And that is why I have...
