Re: Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell -- Testimony Edition

Totally agree with the illusion of growth we all are told is a sign or blessing of our efforts from above. Reminds me of the “miraculous” growth in missionary applicants in the year following the age reductiions — simple math tells you that by increasing the eligibility by one year (half of a two ye...

Re: My Temple Wedding Adventure

I just went through a similar version of this with my niece. My brother has battled an extreme mental illness since she was born and was unable to attend her sealing. I am her only biological uncle and it sort of fell on me to (I suppose) "stand in" for my brother at her sealing. I have been a consc...

Counselor Conundrum

I’m having a hard time deciding how to select a counselor to work with who understands LDS faith challenges to work with. Seems like everyone is either on the “stay” or “leave” side without much in-between or how to “StayLDS” yet live with the dissonance of history, doctrine, policy, and culture tha...

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell -- Testimony Edition

I’m always amazed at the amount of personal faith tests the typical member is expected to go through to prove or show their level of testimony to others. Recommend interviews, speaking assignments, prayer assignments, home teaching, etc… all seem to be ways for others to request a declaration of our...

An Introduction...

SCREEN NAME & AVATAR “lotsofgray” is in reference to both stage of life and the sense that the world is more than black and white most of the time. My avat...

Re: Busy in the Beehive

I guess I find it very hard to say no and mean it to those at church who want my time or feel that I need their class or program or whatever. I think I'll find and take an assertiveness class somewhere...

Re: My Temple Wedding Adventure

I chose to "opt-out" of my niece's recent sealing ceremony, justifying it by being with family members outside that weren't able to attend for varied reasons (non-member, inactive, etc.). Felt like the right thing to do.

Busy in the Beehive

It’s always been a thought I’ve had that all of the auxiliary activity required of members is a way of keeping members busy so as to remove any time to actively investigate and grow their testimonies. Between seminary, mutual, Sunday block, and whatever other meetings or assignments the Ward throws ...
