Re: Tithing settlement policy changes?

Hey, it's better than attending a tithing "hearing" every year. Okay, so after doing some searching here and other places, it seems 1) I've been fortunate to live in places where sign-up sheets were the rule; and 2) this is probably a stake-wide change. At least, I can't imagine "no sign-ups"...

Tithing settlement policy changes?

Last Sunday, the bishopric announced a change to how we do tithing settlement: no more sign-up sheets. We were to make appointments with our (newly called) ward executive secretary. I don't remember the exact words used, but I remember getting the impression that the new policy came from higher up. ...

Re: Energy drinks

It seems to me it was a bit progressive in its time, but not exclusive. But it seems we are kinds of stuck now on something from over 100 years ago and does not focus on the major health issue in the US - obesity. If we were really super health focused there would be talked about at least a bit. It...

Nit: If the half life of caffeine is 6 hours, the quarter life is 12. It's definitely not fully gone by then, though the therapeutic effect probably is. I did a cursory check on some other bits of info, and they seem to be accurate. I'm surprised Red Bull has only 80mg caffeine. A cup of coffee usua...

Re: Having Trouble Processing This

As soon as I thought that, another thought, seemingly from an outside source, accompanied by peace, entered my mind: "That was enough." I am not sure how the "That was enough" phrase relates to your point. Could you clarify that? Ah, I left out something important. I had turned the car around after...

Re: Having Trouble Processing This

Anyone have any thoughts how my current commitment (scaled back) can be reconciled with what I felt when I was "moved"?? I don't know what to think now of the story I'm going to relate because my concept of God has gotten so close to deism. But I'll tell it in the hope that it was somehow divine co...

Re: Omnipotent Heavenly Parents!

My cynical side thinks this renewed emphasis on heavenly parents is part of the push to emphasize traditional marriage, which is partly in reaction to gay marriage being more widely accepted. My provocative side says it's possible we don't know much about Heavenly Mother because we actually have two...

Re: Keeping Fellowship with Trump Supporters?

I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I'm rather insulated because I live in a different country, but I do have to deal with the fact that so many of mine and my wife's cousins voted for that wicked man. I chalk it up to a combination of a bad voting system, partisanship, and cognitive dissonance. B...

Is it possible to talk with the young man more privately sometimes? Let him know you understand he struggles and bear your own "testimony" that is more gray. I think I'll want to have a talk with his dad first. We're on good terms. I'm also on good terms with the young man, so this sounds like it m...
