Re: A rigid lesson from a rigid counselor

Well, the problem has mostly fixed itself. Yesterday, my rigid counselor taught a nice lesson on gifts of the Spirit, using D&C 46 starting at verse 13. The first two: 13 To some it is given by the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that he was crucified for the sins of the ...

Re: One more happy LDS LGBT story for the road

In helping them empathize, please don't paint being queer as inherently being a "trial". Yes, some people deal with internalized homophobia, but for me, at least, being bisexual isn't a trial. It's just part of who I am. Dealing with rejection, homophobia, and identity erasure, however, IS a trial,...

Re: Study: The Moral Virtue of Authenticity

By the way, I do appreciate everyone's thoughts, even though I haven't replied to most of them. I'm still processing.

Re: Study: The Moral Virtue of Authenticity

I agree it can make you feel immoral. But I think if you are not fully active, you are being authentic. I show up, talk with other Mormons, have normal conversations and interactions, but what makes it authentic is the fact that I don't hold a TR, don't hold a leadership calling, and don't get up a...

Re: One more happy LDS LGBT story for the road

Yep, it's still "us" vs "them." It will continue to be for a while. I'm planning to use my position as a youth leader to try to counteract this divisive mentality. In my upcoming lesson on building Zion, I'll point out that, on average, we can expect one Saint on each long pew during sacrament meeti...

Re: I Feel My Life is Over

That being said my wife know the extent to which I (don't) believe and every once in a while when I'm tired or grumpy I remind her and it brings nothing but tears and sadness. We are on a lonely trail in this life and so are our spouses. It occurred to me last week that my wife's trail is lonelier ...

Re: I Feel My Life is Over

That's pretty much where I am with God right now, Shawn. Your prayers sound an awful lot like mine. I think that's where DarkJedi is as well, and probably quite a few more here. We get you. I've actually seen a few therapists over the last 20 years. I've also seen my family doctor, a nurse practitio...
