Re: Can't remember why I'm hurt but I still am!

So, how do you get rid of the hum? Spend a little more time in graveyards. I'm dead serious. Puns aside, I've found it theraputic. It helps oreint myself with the right perspective. It helps me to stop worrying or caring about the pettiness of others, and get on with living. The dead don't gossip, ...

Re: Hard to find the right words

I once heard, "One's perspective is their reality". If your wife is very TBM, it's important to approach her with a TBM mindset. If she has goals, like avoiding green tea or attending the temple more often, do everything you can to support her. Stay away from green tea yourself, or offer to drive he...

Re: Worth it?

I've found that you can find goodness and truth, even from sources you disagree with. Rather than focusing on how sharing the Book of Mormon has affected you, maybe you can focus on how sharing a lesson from the Book of Mormon affected you. There are plenty of good messages, even if you disagree on ...

Re: Non-Traditional Views - A Conversation

This might be picking apart a small part of your story (thanks for sharing, Amy). What I think is interesting, is how often people take Nietzsche's "God is dead" quote out of context, both atheists and religious. Most people take it as almost an exclamation of joy! "God is dead; we are free from Chr...

Re: Beginning the process of "coming out"

In my experience, most fear and anxiety comes from what we worry might happen. Once the deed is one, even if things don't go well, a lot of that stress evaporates.

Re: Root of my faith crisis - trust

Offense never taken, LH. ;) I see where you're coming from, and feel much the same way. I am none to pleased with how they handled the MTC situation, and many others (including myself). Just playing the Devil's Advocate. ...it sure seems to me like innocent victims are being PUSHED onto the tracks T...

Re: Root of my faith crisis - trust

I've got major trust issues with the Church... and really anyone else who claims revelation from or to speak for God. It feels dangerous. What has helped me, is to learn to trust individuals. Not organizations, not institutions, not positions of authority... just individual people, and individual pr...

Re: Word of Wisdom - Experiment

She is an uber TBM, and has expressed confusion as to why God would give such awful dietary advice. I've wondered this too. If God was trying to protect us from the "evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days", I am appauled that he did not mention re...

I think it does matter because why can't church doctrine be more direct? Why all the riddles?
Because we don't have all the answers.

Re: Savior's Doctrine?

Savior's Doctrine: repent and be baptized Savior's gospel: Love God. Love others. *do those last two things, and everything else will just sort of fall into place If it's as simple as that, why do we (church members) feel so conflicted so often?? My two cents: Humans NEED conflict. They couldn't co...
