Re: I Have Met the Name and It is Us

We need a revelation with a short name of the church with Christ in it, and a name for the adherents due to changes in technology in our modern day. Let's get with it and stop trying to make a name that is too long, and conceived in the 18th century, fit. It's a square peg in a round hole. Nelson i...

We need a revelation... Nelson is open minded, if anyone can create a new revelation for inclusion in the D&C it's him...
At one point, I would've said this was heresy! Only God dictates revelation, on his timetable, and his ways aren't ours.

Now... this is how revelation works. :P

Re: I Have Met the Name and It is Us

I noticed in conference, President Nelson shortened it to "Latter-Day Saints". I've also seen "Latter-Day Saints" used much more prevelantly than the full name, or "Mormon", on official LDS sites and publications. It still removes "Christ" from the name, and it sounds concieted, BUT it's still much ...

- I would disavow polygamy: This is slightly off topic, but it troubles me too, that polygamy is still doctrine. We don't practice it for the living, right now, but it is still practiced. Specifically, President Nelson is a polygamist according to the laws and doctrines of the Church, because he ha...

Re: Teachers Council Once a Quarter? Once a Quarter!

Just feel abandoned and used by our organization, and I'm clearly not happy as a fully committed Mormon right now. That's a tough spot to be in. FWIW, I don't think they are going to release you. I think your calling will become less "needed", with the recent changes. On the one hand, you want your...

RMN is also overhauling the Sunday School cirriculum. That would be something I might've done. I'm interested to see how it'll turn out, but it sounds like it'll be more focused on specific topics, with scripture passages cherry-picked to support the Church's views on those topics; i.e. the Church i...

Re: Teachers Council Once a Quarter? Once a Quarter!

I love callings where I can contribute but if a season comes where it's a low key-er I take it. I wonder if we'll see more of these types of callings with the two hour change. It seems like in every ward, there's a HUGE push for every member to have a calling. I swear, it's almost doctrinal. I thin...

Re: Masonry and Metaphor

GBSmith, you bring up many of the issues that I have encountered with the ritual after adopting a non-literal view. Is the ritual focused on aiding personal spiritual progression or in entrenching loyalty and obedience to the institution? The loyalty of the membership to the Church is more importan...
