Kind of a side note note, but related. An Area Authority recently made some comment about using the For the Strength of the Youth pamphlet as a missionary tool (I think it may have been related to something RMN said in his fireside).
Better than the "To Young Men Only" pamphlet.

Re: YSA Fireside

We know more now. The information wasn't hidden, we're discovering it together. I keep coming back to the fact, that many of the collections in the Church History Archives, are kept restricted from the public. This includes anything the Church considers "sacred", "private", "confidential", "defamin...

Re: Black Klansma, KKK & the LDS

Utah History Encyclopedia, The Ku Klux Klan TLDR; 1. The first movement in Utah (1920s) had some Mormons, but was mostly made up of non-members. They were against LDS political and economic power in Utah. The Church has repeatedly deounced them, forbade membership, and enacted anti-KKK laws in Utah...

And I've never been to one where the outcome was predetermined (really, really).
That sort of defeats the purpose of a fair hearing and trial, doesn't it?

Re: Church This Week

so we had a "musical testimony meeting" where members got up and shared a hymn they love, the verse they wanted to sing, and the page number. It was... nice. I wish these happened more regularly in our faith. I have even had devoted LDS converts express the grief of losing their "Hymns and Devotion...

There's a section in Rough Stone Rolling regarding Joseph's "sensitivity" to those who didn't agree with him. I don't have it here in front of me but he dealt with them with a heavy hand.
Lol, I keep trying to like him! Really, I am!

History of the Temple Recommend

Pondering over another post, I decided to look into the history of temple recommends. I came across a blog post, on Upward Thrust , which had a lot of references and covered its development pretty thoroughly. Here are some highlights I found interesting: 1856, Mar 2 - "The persons who can get their ...

Re: Ex-Bishop Up for Disciplinary Council Regarding Minor Interview Outspeak

I agree that common consent seems to have had a different connotation, but it was clearly not OK to be openly, or perhaps even privately, in opposition to Joseph or Brigham. Even their close associates were ex'ed for things we'd think were silly or petty today. Lol, I was editing my OP, just as you...

Re: Ex-Bishop Up for Disciplinary Council Regarding Minor Interview Outspeak

I listened to the "A Thoughtful Faith" podcast last week that had a lawyer on that has been taking on LDS abuse cases most of his career (sounded like he was approaching retirement). I don't know how much is verifiable, but he sure painted a picture that there was a lot of cover-up - as in lots of ...

Re: Saints: the Standard of Truth

I suppose with all the emphasis on "imperfect" people in this book I expected to see a more human representation. Question: Does imperfect mean people that have serious flaws and sometimes do harmful things to each other OR does it mean people who are committed to following their God but do so impe...
