Re: Evangelical Millenial's at Odds With Their Faith

We trade one set of issues for another. Trade-offs. I know I'd have serious mental health problems living in anytime before now. War, disease, impoverished working conditions, lack of sanitation, high mortality rates, lack of education... heck I couldn't have been a Mormon 100 years ago, nor a Chri...

Re: Unsure where to go from here

Hey Arrakeen, Sometimes, I think it's helpful instead of thinking "How am I going to overcome these obstacles?" to think "Where would I like to be when I get to the other side?". It's tough, when the Church has defined everything for you your entire life, to figure out who you are and who you want t...

Re: In Defense of the Name Emphasis

Is the Mormon moniker considered bad? If so, if all we change is the name will whatever conditions that caused people to feel the label Mormon is negative persist and taint whatever new name (in this case old name) we give ourselves? In branding, a name change is sometimes the best thing you can do...

Re: I can’t believe in anything anymore

Have others felt this way? Are some still in this space? Is there value in believing in the supernatural without good evidence for it, other than emotional/spiritual experiences? Should I strive to exit this space just because others like Richard Rohr say I should? 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. I would change t...

Re: Evangelical Millenial's at Odds With Their Faith

Are people nowadays less brand loyal to a church or to a political party, and more open to choose whatever they feel is best? I think across generations people fundamentally stay the same. The old will always think the young are much more disrespectful and foolish than they were at that age (they w...

Re: Evangelical Millenial's at Odds With Their Faith

I'm not a fan of categorizing people based on their generational nickname. "Millenials", "Baby-boomers", "Gen-X", "Gen-Y", all kind of feel like arbitrary breakpoints, use to generalize other groups. That being said... I mentioned something similar to this in another thread not too long ago. People ...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

This does go back On Own's comment (and others) that we have no way on the bottom to share things with the top. No suggestion boxes or SP bumping up a good idea. Revelation negates the need for "human suggestion". I've said this before, but for me it's not so much of a change in this policy or that...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

I simply don't think they understand the gospel correctly... I don't think so either, but who has the authority to interpret the gospel? Because frankly, the main consensual understanding of the gospel has changed drastically from the time of Christ, through the ages, until now. What are the chance...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

I see in other churches the space for literal believers, and people who are believers but kind of living in the real world knowing things are not so clean and simple with how God works with humans. I think many people look at it differently. I've had a minister from another church tell me "We know ...

Re: Prophets rule the roost

Does god inspire the current leader of the church or does god play whack-a-mole until the person with the right inspiration is last man standing? I believe the current Church doctrine, is that God has everything planned so that the exact right person becomes prophet at just the right time. Personal...
