I really don't think the afterlife is going to be much like this place in form or content.
But JS or the D&C said the same sociality that exists here on earth will exist in Heaven....
JS said a lot of things...

Re: Lost Time Listener First Time Caller

Thanks, dande48. Great insights. I'm curious, what has been your experience in the Church not holding a temple recommend? Have you still been asked to hold a calling and what things do you participate in? Your Bishop and Stake President are going to see it on the list, but what they choose to do wi...

Re: Lost Time Listener First Time Caller

Hey Felix! Happy to have you join in. Is it honest and authentic to have a temple recommend with a very loose acceptance of the core belief tenants? Personally, no. I choose not to because I would not feel honest or authentic in doing so. I feel happier and more free for choosing not to hold a templ...

Re: Better to be Happy in Ignorance or Miserable in the Truth?

In fact, you can take the church out of it entirely and use a terminal illness analogy for discussion -- better to not know about the existence of the illness and then drop dead happy (provided it is symptomless, like certain forms of cancer), or to know about the illness and its risks and be miser...

Re: My Tentative Conclusion about gospel convos with Traditional Believers

He eventually said "Everyone is trying to discredit JS" Not to get too political, but the first thing that came to my mind: "FAKE NEWS! IT'S ALL FAKE NEWS!" Or in more TBM terms, "ANTI-MORMON!!! ANTI-MORMON! It's all lies!" It seems like to go-to defense, when you don't have any solid counter-argum...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

The answer is, of course, 42! ;) PPS Of course the actual answer is indeed 42 "The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base 13, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat on my desk, sta...

Re: Better to be Happy in Ignorance or Miserable in the Truth?

Are you saying that is different from other organizations or people? I am going to pull a Lucifer here. "I have said nothing about ______." A lot of good points. I agree, most 20th century Church leaders weren't aware of the sticker bits of Church history. Gordon B Hinkley specifically comes to min...

Re: Better to be Happy in Ignorance or Miserable in the Truth?

But even aside from that. I think it's kind of dangerous to say that everyone that doesn't agree with me is living in ignorance. That is the all-too-common refrain in our present everyone's-a-critic world. Believers are not 'ignorant'... they simply prioritize their perceptions in a different way t...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

It saddens me to have these quotes diminished. Who was being hurt by them. They have been around for over 100 years. Were children of temple sealed parents running around in debauchery thinking that they had a golden ticket? A "get out of jail free" card? Yes, there are no free lunches, the piper m...

Re: Better to be Happy in Ignorance or Miserable in the Truth?

I believe it is impossible to be as happy as you can be, in ignorance. But it's also not good to dwell on miserable truths. Let's say, for example, a person's spouse has committed adultery. Is the person better of knowing about it or not? There are many people in such a situation who will ignore evi...
