Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

And as regards seeing Jesus as someone distasteful possessing the worst characteristics a person might have when you only have the NT record on which to make your decision, is a stretch. All we have is the New Testament, coupled with our faith and interpretations. Christ, according to the NT and fr...

Re: YSA Fireside

Sunday morning, before the Face to Face Fireside even happened, my MBM millenial daughter texted about "Saints" I told her I knew little about it, but that it appeared to have an apologist slant on it. She said she wouldn't be reading it because she knew she would spend hours hunting the source mat...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

...if he didn't claim that God's priesthood authority had been restored through him and that all saving ordinances by any other denomination were not recognized and that the church he organized under the direction of Jesus Christ was the only true and living church... ...then I don't think the Chur...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

In all fairness, we do judge him heavily by today's standards. He lived in a time that was VERY superstitious, and ultimately he was very superstitious himself. He didn't know any better, and clinged to what "certainty" he felt he could. The religion of the time, that Joseph Smith was raised with, w...

Re: History of the Temple Recommend

I think most of the policy changes to the "one year" rule have been made without a lot of fanfare, behind closed doors. I'm not sure what's happened since 1966, but here is the current Church policy: A husband and wife who were married outside a temple may be sealed after one full year from the date...

Re: YSA Fireside

But what still irks me even why I am trying hard to be objective is, (a) I am convinced that many top church leaders did in fact know of some of the "unsavory" history and hid it and (b) in my lifetime the church has excommunicated people for writing books that in essence says nearly the same thing...

Kind of a side note note, but related. An Area Authority recently made some comment about using the For the Strength of the Youth pamphlet as a missionary tool (I think it may have been related to something RMN said in his fireside).
Better than the "To Young Men Only" pamphlet.

Re: YSA Fireside

We know more now. The information wasn't hidden, we're discovering it together. I keep coming back to the fact, that many of the collections in the Church History Archives, are kept restricted from the public. This includes anything the Church considers "sacred", "private", "confidential", "defamin...

Re: Black Klansma, KKK & the LDS

Utah History Encyclopedia, The Ku Klux Klan TLDR; 1. The first movement in Utah (1920s) had some Mormons, but was mostly made up of non-members. They were against LDS political and economic power in Utah. The Church has repeatedly deounced them, forbade membership, and enacted anti-KKK laws in Utah...

And I've never been to one where the outcome was predetermined (really, really).
That sort of defeats the purpose of a fair hearing and trial, doesn't it?
