Re: Service vs. free labor

1) I get "...when you're in the service of your fellow beings..." and "...give them your coat also..." and "...when saw we thee...when ye have done it unto the least of these..." etc. That's why I struggle because sometimes I need my coat more than they do and often I need my Saturday morning more ...

Re: Service vs. free labor

Service: Was asked if i could round up the scouts for a service project to do some yard work. Long story short, 3 leaders and half a dozen youth cleaning the yard of an older single woman who could not do it on her own nor pay for services. Free Labor: Was asked if I could round up the scouts for a ...

Re: Cures for Spiritual Burnout?

Certainly I have. Been in the rut for awhile now. Mine may be similar, I feel like I'm in spiritual apathy, it seems cyclic. There's an ebb and a flow to all things in life, and I will come out of this and I hope that you will too. Words like just pray more just fall flat. I find reading helps thoug...

Re: Challenges in life & the impact of prayer.

I've had my prayers bounce off the ceiling, been in complete harmony with the cosmos, and everything in between, both when things were going well and when times were tough. During my first big challenge if faith, I relied heavily on prayer for peace and absolution. I'm currently going through an exi...

Re: Joseph Smith wasn't actually a Polygamist...

Super interesting discussion. I've read the linked article a few times, some good points were made. I don't know what to think. Sometimes I dislike reading history. Not reading history, but then with different views on documents and writings I try to form a new opinion which is still based on partia...

There probably needs to be more of these, and they should have happened years ago. Well done RR, you got the ball rolling.

Re: Finding Nuanced Believers

I thought for sure when I last spoke in church and openly said I disagreed with something the prophet said, that there would be someone in the ward who would open up and we would have an in depth conversation about our beliefs. Nothing.

Re: Relaxing on the Rules

What rules do we have now in our wards that would help us feel better if we relaxed them? The first that comes to mind is the "no socializing in the sacred chapel". I remember a while ago watching as people chatted after sacrament meeting in little groups and I thought to myself, this is the gospel...

Re: Talk input: follow the prophet

Oh, yes, I didn't mention that the BY quote is in there, as is the one from JS about being trammeled. That has become one of my favorite quotes. My last talk in the link on my footer dealt with my doubts and how I realized my faith is evolving. I remember thinking that some parts of my talk might b...

Re: Faith Journey Goal Post - Long Read (You were warned)

Etched in my memory is the moment I realized that I had probably been getting all communications wrong in talking to people, Hi Amy thanks for your input and words. Could you elaborate on this? I feel like I do not connect/communicate with people let alone understand my own feeling half the time. I...
