Re: Church considering lowering age for youth interviews to 8

If they were to implement some policy to interview youth ages 8 to 11 at regular intervals I'd like to think that the interviews wouldn't be very formal and wouldn't be in a similar format to a TR interview. It would probably be something like: How are you doing? Are you happy? Do you have any ques...

Re: Church considering lowering age for youth interviews to 8

I think it's saying that if a youth ever has a problem they will feel comfortable with taking it to an ecclesiastical leader. It makes more sense in the context of a parent/child relationship than it does in a neighbor with a temporary mantle/child relationship.

Re: Church considering lowering age for youth interviews to 8

And a stray thought on interviews in general. One thought I keep having is why don't we move to a system where members only go to a bishop if they feel the need to go to a bishop. Why all these scheduled interviews? MLS (Member and Leader Services - a membership and statistics program) keeps track o...

Church considering lowering age for youth interviews to 8

Most have probably seen this already but I thought it would be worth some discussion here. https://kutv.com/news/local/lds-church-considering-lowering-age-for-youth-interviews-with-clergy-from-12-to-8 A survey commissioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints inquires about lowering th...

Re: More liberal in my old age

There's the moral foundations theory. Copying from wikipedia, the theory that differences in people's moral concerns can be described in terms of five (or six) moral foundations: Care : cherishing and protecting others; opposite of harm Fairness or proportionality : rendering justice according to sh...

Re: Caudeling of the American Mind

Just finished this book and would highly recommend it (especially if you have young kids). In many ways, we (as a collective society) have failed Generation Z by instilling in them what the book calls the three great untruths: 1. what does not kill you makes you weaker (avoid pain); 2. always trust...

Re: Joseph Smith: Fallen prophet?

I hope you don't mind if I pick on you a little SD. It's just that your answers create more questions for me. What is a prophet? A prophet is someone who speaks for God. People who qualify are given the office through a vision or visitation and receive the priesthood and the office by the la...

They need a reserve, and money for a rainy day.
If they expect it to rain more than 40 days they should probably think about building an ark instead.

My point is... when does building up against a rainy day transition over to simple hoarding?

Re: Ca$h Money

With closed books it's hard if not impossible to tell. All I can say is that the church is much better off than I am and that the church has much more bills than I do. At one time my line was "opportunity cost." Spending 1.5 billion dollars on a mall means 1.5 billion dollars that doesn't go towards...

Re: New visitors welcome TV commercials

I just watched it after reading your comments felixfabulous. You raise some very good points. It seems like the negative reaction stems from not feeling welcome yourself and it being hypocritical and the claims that coming to the LDS Church would make you a better person than not coming. Is that rig...
