Re: New faith crisis podcast

Episode 1 (cont.) Random thought. Some people absolutely need orthodoxy and the church ministers to them very well but we're so good at ministering to people that need orthodoxy that I feel it begins to harm people in groups that need less or even no orthodoxy. Can an organization like the church b...

Re: New faith crisis podcast

Episode 1 (cont.): Good thoughts on not viewing lack of belief as a moral failing. Good thoughts on changing/differing perspectives and how it's hard to see things as others see them. "We've overloaded the truth cart." Just like when we say the church is true, it may help to use more pointed langua...

Re: New faith crisis podcast

I'll acknowledge my bias from the outset. Apologetics don't do it for me, so I'm probably not a part of your intended audience. I do recognize the real need and appreciate that you're out there serving people that are in a position where their needs are not being met. Episode 1: "Intellectually bull...

Re: Just how necessary is all this?

How does one measure spirituality?

We attempt to measure spirituality but one of the fruits of that effort is putting the cart before the horse. Conditioning that leads us to believe someone isn't spiritual unless they're checking the boxes.

Re: Just how necessary is all this?

It was only as necessary as we made it. I don't say that to be dismissive of the question, life is much more complicated than that. People taught us that all the programs and busy work were vital. People in the culture hounded one another to make sure everyone else was doing what was vital. The envi...

Re: The Brethren

The google dictionary (what is this, a sacrament talk? ;) ) shows that usage for the word brethren peaked in the late 1830s and the usage has trailed off ever since. I'm not entirely sure where the data comes from, I think from some library of books. The point is that I think it was a more common wo...

Re: Plandemic, conspiracies, and faith

Conspiracies go in both directions. There's: the coronavirus is a hoax meant to take people's freedoms away and there's a microchip in the vaccine with the number 666 embedded in it so Bill Gates can... do I don't know what. And there's: they're manipulating the numbers to hide deaths and new cases ...

Re: How will the Church change in light of the Covid Virus?

They happened very close to one another. On March 12, 2020 the governor of Utah announced that gatherings would be limited to 100 people starting March 16th. Later that same day the church suspended gatherings until further notice. The church's suspension of meetings was to occur starting at the tim...
