Re: Creating Worlds

I certainly think many of those who control this world have given allegiance to Satan or what he represents, maybe not at some blood drinking ceremony with upside down crosses, but certainly by selling out to greed, sadism, cruelty, lust, selfishness, murder and the need to wield unrighteous author...

Re: Creating Worlds

But serious question. How do we view Satan? He is Lord of this World. We do not obey him as Christians, but theologically speaking I understand that humans' bad choices have handed this world over to him. Does Satan thus have a planet? A few factors: 1) The state of the world. Satan may be the "lor...

Re: Can you be "All in?"

Because of your point above about cafeteria Mormonism, I think being "all in" to me is more about commitment. In spite of everything wrong with the Church or its doctrine or history, it's about sticking with it through good and bad. Maybe it's like a marriage relationship - "for better or for worse...

Re: Can you be "All in?"

I would absolutely be weary of anyone, your bishop included, who has 100% confidence in anything. You can, and should, be willing to change your mind as new evidence presents itself. Doubt invites continued revelation, 100% confidence kills it. Put another way, how are we going to receive revelatio...

Re: Can you be "All in?"

There's probably a lot of overlap with discussions on cafeteria Mormonism but shooting from the hip... no one at church is all in. There aren't enough hours in a day. So you magnified three callings. You cleaned the building on Saturday. Helped with that move. Spent 6 hours indexing during the week....

Re: Supposed Blizzard of Changes coming at General Conference

If it was intentional, and announced that way, it would be evidence this whole thing is more true than I figured. Organizational interests drive the bus in our religion. If you accept the premise that no one really knows when the second coming will happen, I can't see leaders enacting policies that...

Re: Supposed Blizzard of Changes coming at General Conference

I think the rumors are a reflection of a few things. 1) Members are starved for change. Church maintained the status quo for a very long time, right down to keeping the same Sunday School manuals and the same format for PH/RS for nearly 20 years. Church became rote and boring. 2) Last conference sho...

Re: tracking statistics

We could do a simple net promoter score... https://youtu.be/qWKipJefrN8 ...and count that as member missionary work...I recommend this church to friends and family...that's missionary minded. https://i.imgur.com/Tm7vFiK.jpg It does look kinda like Elder Cook. ...and Elder Eyring. ...and Elder Oaks....

Re: tracking statistics

There is a report called "key indicators." At the ward level it tracks: Sacrament meeting attendance % Endowed adults with TR % Priesthood attendance % Relief Society attendance % YM attendance % YW attendance % Men holding the MP % Members submitting temple ordinances % First four generations of fa...

Re: Single Women: You have Priesthood Authority in Your Home

What is priesthood getting us that we don't already have without the priesthood? Cynical views: Dominance and order. When a conflict arises it tells us who is in charge, who gets to make the final decision. It's the mechanism for establishing the hierarchy. The Dumbo's feather view. PH doesn't give...
