Re: Overcoming feelings of isolation

I understand those feelings. Sometimes I think it would be easier to stay at home because that way I know the loneliness I felt was the result of a specific choice that I made. It's a little harder on the psyche to attend church and feel alone while sitting in the middle of a crowd. The thing is, I ...

Re: New Youth Program

My wife's perspective was: They took an hour to say, "We'll have more info in November." Let the kid set his or her goals and go with it. Or the biggie, the one that gets the T-Rex real stompy. Let the kid have no goal at all . Or even leave it at, "my goals are private." I worry that church on Sund...

Re: New Youth Program

We watched the video. The presentation was a little rough (we found it boring) but I agree with QuestionAbound, the message was essentially do what you want. My only concern is based on past experience. First some background. When ministering was introduced it was all about ministering how you want ...

Re: New Youth Program

We're going to watch the video for 5th Sunday in my ward.

Is that all it is then? A chance to say "home centered, church supported" and "covenant path" a few times? ;)

Re: Book of Mormon Translation

I'll step on some toes. I apologize in advance. Book of Mormon There's a subtle difference between asking "Was the BoM inspired scripture?" and "Is the BoM inspired scripture?" There are no shortage of angles to view things, here's one. When we look to the past to determine whether the BoM should ho...

Re: Another thought on the new schedule change...

The PH quorums were combined but when it comes to ministering/home teaching the frequency of reporting has been reduced and made less formal. With home teaching reporting occurred at the end of every month. There were also Personal Priesthood Interviews. As far as I know there wasn't a hard and fast...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

I'll gladly trade wards with you. :P We don't have a lot of announcements in our ward and will often cut out the rest hymn. That usually leaves us with plenty of time. We have youth speakers and frequently, frequently have talks go for 20+ minutes. If the SP is visiting our ward the SP will always t...

Re: 9/17 Nelson Devotional

It was... disheartening. A very high level view of the five truths discussed: 1) We are children of god. We are a chosen generation reserved for the climatic battle taking place between good and evil today. Speculation that in the preexistence we all promised to defend the gospel during "this world'...

Does a Bishop or Counselor ever get up and say: "this is not the position of the Church" (or something more diplomatic?)
Now I have a mental image of Elder Oaks' bishop tapping him on the shoulder mid-talk during general conference.

Re: Extremely Rough Sacrament Meeting

The roughest sacrament meeting I ever sat through was several years ago now. The talk covered three bases: 1) Complaining about critics and doubters. 2) The 14 fundamentals. 3) A story about a gay friend that felt like they received revelation that gay marriage was okay and the speaker telling that ...
