Re: RM's auto-admitted to BYU-Pathway Program

I guess this could be a win-win. It serves as a "GI bill" of sorts to sweeten the pot for people on the fence about serving a mission (more missionaries for the church) and the pathway program has a heavy church activity focus (addressing the issue of RMs going inactive). Five or so years ago return...

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

Funerals aren't too dissimilar. If you have a funeral in a LDS building you can expect the service to have a missionary opportunity feel to it. If you get the wrong bishop you may even be limited to how much you can make the funeral about the deceased. Their building, their rules I guess. If you wan...

Re: Ideas for Sacrament Meeting

I don't believe anyone set out with the goal of making our meetings torturous but I know many, many people that have a similar opinion to the people in Roy's examples. If the meetings aren't filling someone's needs they may move into the model where they attend out of a sense of duty. Attending sole...

Re: Ideas for Sacrament Meeting

Unfortunately, with Elder Holland's conference talk last month, I think we are headed in the opposite direction for the time being. We are going to hear more emphasis on reverence, getting to the meeting early and being quiet. These are not bad things, but I think they contribute to an uptight atmo...

It would be nice if people let feelings be raw for a while until we can move past them, and then be truly happy for the next generation.
Yes. Extend the same mercy we ask people to apply to the church to the people that were wronged.

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

We tend to forget about the younger kids in all of this. This was one of my double struggles 30+ years ago. Grandparents that I loved could not attend. But I'd grown up with that. My mom, their only child, married in the temple. They didn't even go to the building and wait. But when it came time an...

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

Or like in grade school, when a bully comes up to you and apologizes and hands you a cupcake... it might be a fine cupcake. They might be genuinely sorry. But I wouldn't blame anyone if their knee-jerk reaction in "Why are you being nice to me? What's your angle?! What are you trying to pull?!" :th...

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

I have seen some chats about this being announce was to distract from the negative press coming from the Vice episode released a few days ago that focused on how the church responds to sex abuse. Not sure, but it is a normal PR strategy to pull the limelight away from the negative. I feel that's ov...

Re: Sealing waiting period policy discontinued

Extremely conflicted. I feel you SD. I had no family members present at my marriage/sealing. Given the logistics and the mindset of prioritizing the temple sealing, I can't say that it would have gone any differently had the policy not been in place when I was married. We still had to get sealed fa...
