Re: Covid-19 and religious freedom

... My government is not restricting my freedom of religious expression, my church is (which is not really unusual). Agreed. Case in point: Stake conferences canceled through November 1, exceptions can be requested https://www.ldsliving.com/Stake-conferences-canceled-through-November-1-exceptions-c...

Re: Covid-19 and religious freedom

Comparing attending church to filling up with gas is also a false equivalency. I'm not in an enclosed building when I buy gas. When I pump gas I typically do so alone. At the very least I wouldn't use the word "gathering" to describe the number of people in my periphery. Even if there were a few peo...

Covid-19 and religious freedom

I need a little help processing this: https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/bednar-covid-19-pandemic-religious-freedom It's really hard for me to organize my thoughts on the religious freedom debate, so I'll (try to) let it gestate. I can say that this sort of thing makes it harder for me...

July 2020 Ensign

I typically don't think about the Ensign very much but I heard buzz about the upcoming July 2020 Ensign so I decided to check it out. It does create some potential rough spots for people trying to navigate a faith crisis with believing family and friends. Church History: A Source of Strength and Ins...

Re: NAACP, the Church, and modern race relations

With regards to the observation about spaghetti strap tank tops: I think it's the result of falling into the same trap that we fall into where we often take Jesus for granted, resulting in Jesus not being emphasized as much as other subjects. The thought is, "Of course we believe in Jesus." so we ta...

Here's a quote I've seen in the bloggernacle:

Re: New Announcement from Church HQ (missionary apparel)

I was in a no suit coat mission but we had to have them for the MTC and the plane rides. We lugged our unused suit coat from town to town during transfers. I remember hearing of missions in... Tonga? where missionaries could were lava-lavas, and that was decades ago. My take on this new announcement...

It sounds like some relaxing, but not a complete unclenching. Hey, progress is progress.

Re: New faith crisis podcast

Episode 2: Not many comments on this episode, it's pretty self explanatory. I took an OT class in college (non-LDS school), so I had been exposed to a lot of the information you shared in the beginning (the R, S, T, L, N, and E; now give me three more consonants and a vowel authors). I remember thi...

Re: NAACP, the Church, and modern race relations

I had a reply that took a while to write but accidentally closed the tab. This will be a quicker version of that post. Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form.” Race and the Priesthood essay published 12/13 It's super easy to condemn racism. It's ...
