Re: TR Questions Change-up

Even though I think we are losing people, even in the temple (as evidenced by allowing more people to witness, requiring fewer PH holders), I felt less welcome to attend the temple than I did a week ago. As far as supporting and promoting go, it feels like they're going after thoughts as well as act...

Re: What makes a Church "successful"? Is the LDS Church successful?

There's success at the organizational level and success at the individual level. Defining success at the organizational level is probably the most uniform and easy to measure. Things like growth in membership, financial stability, etc. I don't think the church does this, but organizations can also s...

Re: Confrence hard but i learned something

I guess the one thing I learned this conference session is that I don't want to sit through the April sessions about Joseph Smith and the 1st vision. Those were my thoughts exactly. A special session of general conference on the 200th anniversary of the first vision... well one of them anyway. I'm ...

Re: Confrence hard but i learned something

I'd recommend listening to the women during the General Women's Session, just be sure to turn it off once the men come up to the podium. I'll include a lot of projection in my summary: My takeaway is that church leaders have a very, very difficult time drawing a line of delineation between "the chur...

Re: Change to Garment Question in Temple Recommend Interview

I don't see the significance of removing "both night and day." They removed "in accordance with the covenant you made in the temple." Presumably because we don't make a covenant with respect to wearing garments in the temple. Here is the new question in its entirety: Do you keep the covenants that y...

Re: TR Questions Change-up

There's still wiggle room. "Support or promote" doesn't mean the same thing as "agree with." Still, it's baffling how in 2019 the temple recommend has more than one question. Of course I'd like to do away with temple recommend interviews altogether. Maybe that makes me have to answer yes to this par...

Re: TR Questions Change-up

Most looked the same, or similar enough. This one stood out: Before: Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? After: Do you support or promote any te...

Re: Can't we be joyful?

It's ironic. The hosanna shout is meant to celebrate the temple but it's this awkward, forced, scripted celebration. Meanwhile we're shutting down actual celebratory shouts.

Follow the script. The shout was shouted. Check the box. Joy.

Re: Getting back into the scriptures = Change?

One of the hallmarks of the restoration was no longer being hamstrung by the limitations of scripture that existed at the time. The benefit of god speaking to man was that people could move forward in confidence in ways that weren't defined in existing scripture. We had enough faith to write scriptu...

Re: Major Changes to the Young Women and Young Men Programs

I'm not a fan of, "As I strive to qualify for exaltation..." in the theme. I get the meaning but I don't think it's a spiritually healthy way of viewing our journeys. Not referring to the weekday meeting as "mutual?" The purpose of language is to communicate. If someone says "mutual" everyone at chu...
