What's Kept On Your Records?

I've always been sort of bothered by the idea of the records that might be kept on members by the church. How much do they "spy" on you? Can a bishop/SP pull up a file that shows your HT Record, Temple Attendance, etc., for the past 10 years? Do they make a note of whether or not you took a calling,...

Re: More LDS Bloggers getting the call (NYT Article)

I think we can say whatever we all want - and after those words get thought on for a while - it's often times good we say what is on our minds. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone can have an expectation to be able to publicly say whatever you want and then expect the church to allow you to continue...

Re: My Marriage as a Metaphor for My Church

Such a great post. Reminds me of one video by Holland where he said, "Assume the good, and doubt the bad." How Do I Love Thee I think it was called. Or perhaps in this case as Ray has already said, "Focus on the bricks, ignore the sand". I'm not especially active in the church right now - but that b...

Re: Ugly Call From The Folks

Yes, I agree. They were scared. And they acted in accordance with being scared. And perhaps even more true is the fact that they viewed me as being the corrupting factor for other members of the family. Just like one of us might rationalize saying or doing harsh things to protect someone else. As fa...

Re: Ugly Call From The Folks

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts. I guess my initial feeling is to refuse any interaction with them based on the church. Perhaps I need to meet them a bit on their own ground - as much as I hate doing that. The things that hurt like hell I guess are usually the ones you need to do anyways. Th...

Ugly Call From The Folks

So my parents have known I'm less active for quite some time now. I guess most of our family have been damaged in our interactions with the church. In my case, is probably as much me as the church that caused the damage - but it occurred nonetheless from the interaction. I'm much better now that I'm...

Ending Of Life - Beyond The Obvious

I have a friend who has confided in me a great secret they have. I thought I knew the answer to their question, until they explained things to me. This person has struggled with their health for the past 10 years. While I also have health problems, there pale in comparison to what this person is goi...

Re: We have received, and we need no more!

Being kind and respectful of the beliefs of others (ie not trying to change them) and accepting them as they are/as they think seems to open up minds to alternate points of view quicker than anything else I've ever seen. I guess as soon as a person feels like we don't approve of or accept them, they...

Re: Can't believe it happened to me

I am not sure my answer is right. But I'll throw my sail up into the wind, and hope you can use it to steer the boat in the right direction for you. As much as I'd like to think otherwise, my advice should only be input into your mind to help you make the best decision for you. I wouldn't be afraid ...

Re: Great article on giving Mormonism another chance

I appreciate the article. For me, I guess it all depends on what you define as a 2nd chance. If giving the church a 2nd chance means inhaling everything emanates from the church - or anybody with any level of responsibility in it - without filtering it through my critical mind, then I guess my answe...
