Re: More overtones to Pres. Uchtdorf's talk

As my wife and I watched his talk, she rewound a part to ask me if I heard it. He mentioned that none of the LOCAL leadership are paid. This has been a bit of a standing debate among people in my Ward during certain lessons. His qualifying statement implies that the people at the top are paid. Not ...

Re: How The Myths Begin...

And Dark Jedi, I agree - this is how policies and principles like the WoW, blacks and the priesthood, women praying in church, only partaking of the sacrament with your right hand, no TV on Sunday, white shirts, no tattoos and multiple earrings become The Mind and Will of The Lord. We do this to ou...

Re: How The Myths Begin...

I'm going to put in my 2 cents. I can see how Elder Evans statements could be read as saying Pres. Monson received a revelation (or inspiration). I can also see how it could be read that Elder Evans was just saying the regular Mormon (Christian really) statements when talking about a leader's statem...

Re: The world...

I had friends over recently. We have some photos of Buddhist statues. My friend saw them and said "what are these?" "Photos of Buddha." "Why do you have graven images in your home?" "I found a lot of respect for Buddhism while living in Asia. I don't worship Buddha, so it's not a graven image. Besi...

Re: Dating a non member

Here is my 2 cents: Date someone that most reflects your religious and political views. If they differ too far at the start, you just have a bigger hill to climb. Marriage is hard in the first place and adding the stress of different religious views just adds to the difficulty. That said, you marry ...

Re: The “First Discussion” With My Wife

I understand completely. I've had these discussions with my wife, many a times. I agree, you have to do it one piece at a time and YOU have to sacrifice. I attended SS and PH for many a months because my wife was not ready for me to stop. I also made sure, and still do, that she feels that her well ...

Re: The world...

... the one being put forward as the 'Lord's definition' is made up to suit the speaker. Interesting and very true. I think I'm going to challenge the speaker (not the OP, but others) when they say "the world" on what their definition of "the world" is and their definition of "not the world". Could...

Re: The world...

Granted "The World" is used a lot in Mormon culture, but it is also used a lot in Christian culture. I have heard it quite a bit on Christian Radio stations, so I think the issue is not just with Mormon's but with Religion. I don't know about Muslims, Buddhism, and Islam, but I'm sure they have some...

Re: Sealings: I GAVE myself to him??

I'm pretty young, comparatively. I didn't even know it said that, or even meant that, until I read this first post. I had to think about it for awhile. I agree, I would not care if it got changed. I don't think my wife heard anything in the temple that day, so she probably doesn't know it exists eit...
