Re: Disciplinary Councils

If you are a counselor, then you’ll get to ask questions, and the Bishop “should” ask you for your opinion. Just be honest, tell it like you see it. Ask good questions. Also, remind the bishop during deliberations that it is better to error on the side of compassion than the other way. It will go mu...

Free Will

There is a real good post over at Wheat&Tares

Re: BYU Psych prof addresses faith crisis at Ed Week

This is a VERY common request. I know a ex-bishop that has been pushing his stake president to do SOMETHING about all the people leaving. Have a "meet" discussion area. The SP asked permission of SLC and they came back with, "No, stick to the existing meetings." It is a two edge sword. I think some...

Re: Major changes to PH/RS curriculum for 2018

Re: Swearing

Yep, the Jews avoided saying the name of God, because they saw no need to do so (no purpose or authority). I don't like that approach, personally, since it feels too much like "He Who Must Not Be Named" - paeticularly since active punishment often was seen as a legitimate result of improper usage. ...

Re: Near-death Bishop's Counsel

Here is a principle (hopefully not too far off-topic) that I struggle with on a regular basis. Proposition: even though your bishop failed in his ostensible purpose to bring about a miraculous cure, he was still inspired, and you were blessed for following his counsel. You changed physicians, got o...

Re: Swearing

Several years ago I was flying to London from the US on business. This was before they had individual movie screens, so the movies were edited down to a PG level. The movie playing was “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, which takes place in the UK. I had already seen the edited movie on a domestic fligh...
